PSA - Beware of fake Pactimo facebook account

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

PSA - Beware of fake Pactimo facebook account

Copied from an email I received from Pactimo.....
WATCH OUT FOR A FAKE FACEBOOK
ACCOUNT POSING AS PACTIMO

It has come to our attention there is a fake Pactimo Facebook page attempting to scam our customers and followers.

This fake account has been running a fake contest and is asking people to provide a credit card number to secure a prize, which we would never do!

This fake!
Notice how they are asking
for a credit card and are using
a fake bit.ly URL.
This is our legitimate contest.
Notice how we ask for nothing
and direct you to our website.

You can identify this fake page by:

1.

FAKE PAGE WITH FAKE URL

The page on Facebook shows the Pactimo name
with two o's in the URL (www.facebook.com/pactimoo).

Obviously, our page URL is www.facebook.com/pactimo

2.

FAKE CONTEST PAGE

They are directing people to a page with a fake https://bit.ly/Pactimo contest URL.

We only direct people to our own website, so all URLs taking you from Facebook should say www.pactimo.com/win750 or similar.

3.

FAKE MESSAGING

We do not "friend" people on Facebook for the intention of informing you that you have won something. We only notify winners of contests via email.

This is an example of a FAKE message through Facebook:

4.

ASKING FOR A CREDIT CARD

We NEVER ask for a credit card information
in order to process a prize or "secure a sponsor."

Prizes we award are given as a store credit that is applied to your account. Winners never pay anything to get the prize and will never be asked to supply a credit card to get their prize.

Please DO NOT give your credit card to anyone pretending to be Pactimo or a representative of Pactimo.

Please note, when you make a purchase on our website, you are conducting a secure transaction. You can tell it is secure by the lock in the address bar.

We never store your credit card information in our transactional database.

5.

ASKING TO BE FRIENDS

Do not accept friend requests from any accounts on Facebook identifying themselves as "Pactimo."

We will never send friend requests to customers or followers.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

Please report the fake page to Facebook.

1.

Go to the fake page
https://www.facebook.com/Pactimoo

2.

Click on the 3 dot (···) button to the right of the page and
click on Find support or report profile.

3.

Select Fake Account and follow the next steps.

We want you to know we take your security seriously.

We never sell or trade your personal information, we do not save credit card data and we have always employed a secure website for transactions.

Please do not hesitate to contact us at help@pactimo.com if you have questions.

Best regards,
Tony

Page isn't available now. I hope that means your report had a positive effect.

I am generally against the death penalty. For ID theft and other computer crimes, though, I'm not so sure. I hope these POSes didn't do much damage to you.

The state taking the lives of its citizens is an abomination; an abject failure dressed up as action. It doesn't remotely work as a deterrent for the sort of crimes it's a penalty for.

On the other hand, it'd be a fine deterrent for corruption... And I don't think it's a stretch to say that crippling the opportunity of thousands or millions of people to flourish, just to satisfy personal avarice is a far worse crime than the **** or murder of a single individual, or even a couple of dozen.

Scammers, meh. They're just another class of parasites benefiting from the deliberate lack of critical thinking skills fostered in the populace. By corrupt scum who truly deserve the guillotine.

While the fake page has been taken down, it was still active two days after the email was sent!

The fact that Pactimo could not contact Farcebook and have the fake page taken down immediately and that they had to reach out to their customers to ask them to report the page tells me everything I need to know about Farcebook and the slimebags that run it.

Personally, I refuse to respond to ANY ads on Facebook. Far too many scammers. Unfortunately, it hurts the legitimate sellers.

You know your company has reached top status when scam companies start copying you.

Yep, and if enough real companies pull out of advertising because they realize most of the audience is hesitant, Facebook will (hopefully) start doing a better job of vetting their advertisers.
