Anyone here from Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Anyone here from Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin?

Got a business (ok,fishing) trip in August, & thinking about bringing my bike. Sound like they just fish early, so I thought it'd be a great way to not miss my riding, & catch some sights.

not from there, but growing up we spent summers up there in Door County. i haven't been there since i was about 16, (or 7 or 8 years) but my dad and i used to ride around a lot. check out glidden drive, its right outside of town, and runs about 8 miles along lake michigan. there are also plenty of completely empty county roads. it's a great place to ride, I wish my family had kept the house up there, but it was too far from Ohio.

enjoy!

Should know more tomorrow, they are faxing me the itinerary (sp). It's one of those deals where we buy their products, & they give us fishing & Vegas trips.

Anyway, the guy that went last year said they get up at about 330 & fish until 10-11; something about that's when the Salmon feed (u can tell I'm a big fisherman). Anyway, sounds like the rest of the time is just sitting at the bar.... so I'm thinkin, y not bring the bike.

Coming from Scott City,KS, & dang, just looked at the map, & Milwaukee looks like quite a drive. My buddy that work's here did mention it might be worth renting a car.

Sounds like it would really bite if I didn't take my bike.

Oh yeah...a couple of hours at least. Plenty of pretty areas up there to ride, but in case you had some time and wanted to do a little adventure....come to a real city.....see some of Milwaukee....I'd make sure to hook you up with my LBS and a ride if we could do it around my schedule.

From Sturgeon Bay up north into Door County can be great riding, depending on weather and severity of tourist infiltration. For some suggested bike routes, check www.travelwisconsin.com (from top of the home page, click on "Things to Do," at next screen click on "Recreation & Attractions" on the left side under the "Things to Do" tab, then select "Biking" from the next menu).

Additional bike routes (for the whole state, including a couple in Door County) are available in the Wisconsin Biking Guide (74 pp.) which can be ordered at the website or by calling 800.432.8747.

Great cycling in Door County. From Sturgeon Bay your trick is to get north and avoid the busy roads (42 and 57). If you take county T north from Sturgeon Bay you will get right onto Glidden Drive that Petagus mentioned above. From there you can go up through Cave Point County park and have your pick of great county roads throughout the county.

My parent live up there and I was riding the same roads a couple weeks ago.

Take the bike. You'll have a great time. And the beers will taste that much better after your ride!

Cave Point is awesome -- especially if the weather is nasty and Michgan is wavey.
Peninsula State Park is crowded, but has wonderful black top bike roads.

I live in Madison, but avoid Door county anymore... WAY too Touristy and crowded. Before the holiday weekends, it is just one 20 mile long line of cars heading up HWY 42.

If you can handle cool weather, it's great pre-season (April -ealry May)
