Your Ride Reports - August 2021
If you are new to posting on this thread, or if you are new to cycling, we welcome you! If you are returning from a previous thread, we welcome you, too.
This thread is for anyone who rides a bicycle ... or unicycle, tricycle, tandem, etc.
Are you an experienced road cyclist? Do you bike to work? Do you pull your children to the park? Do you ride weekends? Do you spin at home or in the gym? Is Zwift your thing? Do you race crits, ironman, or centuries? Touring? Audax/Randonneuring?
Or are you just starting out and remembering how much fun you had biking when you were a kid?
There are no set challenges - this is a mixed-ability / mixed-experience / everyone welcome group.
Just pick the target that you would like to achieve this month and post updates throughout the month as you work toward your target. We love seeing photos of your rides and hearing all about them.
Given the current situation many of us will be cycling solo or indoors. Don't feel alone! Share your accomplishments with us.

Saturday I went to Weedon Is. for 40 miles. Sunday I did my Picnic to Davis Is. ride for 41 miles. Really hot. Sunday was especially hard.

Went for my usual 60 mile ride in Westchester, NY.

80 miles and 6400 feet of elevation gain (three long climbs). I think that is my max enjoyable distance and only enjoyable since we have big mountain passes that are beautiful. Otherwise, I'd prob do 30-40 max.

Got my first real ride in this past weekend since I shipped my bike form Guam to Connecticut. 25 miles and 1350' of climbing after not riding for about six weeks. Also got my power pedals in and man, it is such a different experience riding with power and cadence.

I was back in the Ocala Nat. Forest for the weekend. Saturday had a nice 40 mile ride on a mix of paved and unpaved roads. Sunday did another 40 miles to Wildcat Lake. Scared myself and a bear cub on the side of the road.

Just a ride through town to soak up what remains of summer. It looks like Kentucky, but it's the north side of Detroit.

I was down in Morgan County looking for some climbs. The first one wasn't so bad but it got steeper near the top. The second was short but steep and the road was mostly gravel and wet. Front wheel wanted to come off the road but standing made the rear wheel lose traction. The third was a steep, straight shot up and the road was wet.

Passed a "BRIDGE OUT" sign on the home stretch and just hoped I could ford whatever was ahead.

bridge was gone
But on one side, the workers had left a couple of I-beams, the bigger one neatly crossed the creek.

convenient!
Sank in the mud on the embankment and had to spend several minutes getting the muck out of my cleats but I was across.

Somewhat miserable 43 mile ride on Saturday to Philippe Park. Really hot. I stopped under a shade tree a few miles from home just to prevent overheating. Sunday family stuff kept me off the bike.

I've been having an enjoyable cycling month, thanks. Everything from 4-mile grocery rides to my monthly metric century (2/3 of the way to a P-12). Life is good.

Saturday and Sunday did my Picnic Is. to Davis Is. ride. Slightly different routes each day, but basically 40 miles. It is still stupidly hot and the wind was up for the first time in a while. This is the time of year I get sick of summer.
