Fetish Cycles?

Has anyone heard anything about Fetish Cycles, they seem to have some decent stuff for good prices.

Veneer just built up one and loves it.

Good stuff, I ride one of their Penna frames that I picked up wholesale, pretty tough frame to beat for $300

Smoothie104 07-21-05 12:02 PM

I have the SAC, bought it cheap, to make a TT bike, no complaints, despite the Marketing BS you hear, its not rocket science to weld some aluminun tubes together.

They are sturdy, hand built, no frills frames... I like mine

sunninho 07-21-05 12:47 PM

My buddy is building up an SAC as well. Got the frame off Ebay for under $200, I think. He's pairing the frame with a new Easton EC90 Aero fork -- should look killer when he's done. I'll have him post pics in a month or two.

dutret 07-21-05 12:56 PM

I have the SAC too. Its stiff enough for me and not that heavy. The geometry isn't perfect for me but its not abnormal or anything. It was under $100 after shipping and at that price its pretty hard to complain. Even at three times that price I would still go for it probably.
I'm pretty sure the website is just to make the ebay sales look like a better deal which is kinda devious though.

Fetishryder 07-21-05 01:02 PM

Yeah Fetish Cycles makes some pretty kool and innovative frames. WWW.FetishCycles.com

I just bought the SAC Aero frame and an Easton EC90 Aero fork to go with it like Sunninho said. I am trying to go either full Dura ace or ultegra groups on it. Oversized Fetish Cycles carbon road handle bars, Fetish Cycles carbon stem and seat post, mavic rims, Chris king headset, Fizik seat... should be an awesome ride!

I will post pics when the project is finished!

Fetish are decent affordable frames, but most certainly not hand-built. They are all produced in Taiwan and are all machine built. I am not saying that this is a bad thing, I just wanted to clarify. We've been a dealer for Fetish in the past and I didn't want people to get the impression that these were hand built by a US Frame builder or anything. My wife rides an SAC and I used to ride an SAC Aero as a TT bike and neither of us had any complaints.

Smoothie104 07-21-05 01:28 PM

Mine has a big Hand Built sticker on it, i knew that it was taiwanese.

ggg300 07-21-05 02:52 PM

I saw a frame that a buddy was thinking about getting and it looked good it seems to be in the same class as Leader http://www.leaderbikeusa.com/products/frames/frames.htm

Ha, I think it's the gothic red viper look they like :p FetishRyder's SAC will have a red/black Easton EC90 Aero fork. Can't wait to see it put together.

this is not a slam at all, but i asked one of the folks at fetish to compare their carbon frames with something more common, like a kestrel evoke or an OCLV, and the guy told me that fetish was "...more of a boutique bike -- like your colnagos and pinarellos." just thought that was kind of silly. :o
again, not a slam. in fact, when i was looking for a carboluminum frame, i seriously considered their dirigente model. they make some good-looking stuff.

Bikeophile 07-21-05 03:42 PM

My wife's had her SAC for 2 years now...not many miles on it, but no complaints.. As far as an entry level bike goes, this one compares easily to other more well known brands.

Yeah Fetish is trying to market their stuff like the Colnago type boutique bikes..and doing so very unsuccessfully. It's hard to market yourself as a "limited production" high class bike, when you dump every model you have on ebay for wholesale pricing.

The frames are all decent (including the the carbon frames), but their sales practices are not ideal for what they seem to want to achieve.

The way they have their frames "dumped" on ebay basically chases away retailers who want to sell the frames. They have their frames sold on ebay often times cheaper than retailers can buy from them wholesale (this is why we are not stocking Fetish frames anymore). When we as retailers can buy cheaper on ebay than from Fetish directly, there is no point.

That being said though, for the end customer...its great.

As far as Fetish vs. Leader...They are both made in Taiwan, but Fetish frames are much nicer, even at the lowest model (SAC).

veneer 07-21-05 04:27 PM

well.. fetish may or may not be boutique.. but for me.. i've yet to see a person in my neck of the woods riding one.. so that makes me the first.. espeically when i built it myself.. haha ;)

so for me.. it's a boutique as it gets.

as for the frame itself.. i like it far better than the Leader.. since i'm not a big fan of RED... zappcatt can tell u... the colors i know are white, black, blue... but mainly white color.

the frame is great.. its pretty lightweight and the weld is pretty nice. frame does flex a bit on the climb.. especially around the BB part.. but i think it's pretty much common along the alum. bike frames. regardless.. it's great for consumers to be able to get it on ebay..

from what i know the ones on ebay have some blemishes on their logo... whereas the ones from them directly doesn't. but it's hardly noticable~

ZappCatt 07-21-05 04:31 PM

My Leader is going to kick your Fetish' aZZ tonite!!!!

;-)

sunninho 07-21-05 04:41 PM

Everyone likes a "Leader" (like Mr. President, well in general) but not everyone wants to say they own a "Fetish" (like piss-***** and toe lust). Fetish riders are a special breed ;)

yup.. special breed they are. fetish.. yeah.. that's just unique and kinky in a way.. lol

Fetishryder 07-21-05 05:32 PM

It depends on how kinky you are... I see it that this company has recognized that most cyclists have a "Fetish" for riding! There is nothing wrong with that... its totally healthy! Their line of bikes appeal to that "fetish" with their sleak designs and out-of-the-box creations.

Now is it their fault that some twisted minds associate "Fetish" with deviant behavior? I think not!

veneer 07-21-05 05:37 PM

well... kinky or not.. it's a fetish and it's my fetish. so i love it. even if others think it's kinky.. haha

shnapper 07-21-05 06:36 PM

I should say something, but I won't.............

Lord knows I want to, but I can't.............

Go ahead buy the fetish, maybe the quality will be there, maybe it won't..............
