light weight tired = devil
 

bought nice expensive lightweight zipp tires...bike felt great 3rd ride bamo..flat.my last flat was years ago.
never again....

What caused the flat?

If at first you don't succeed, post a terrible review and never go back?

3 things:
1) Congrats on your 5 year run of good luck.
2) To a large part, flats are randomly caused. Maybe that just happened to be the day you found a piece of glass, wire, sharp rock, or other tire hazard.
3) Lightweight tires are designed for performance, not toughness. If you want to ride through trash and not flat, Zipp probably isn't the brand you need to consider. If you want to ride fast, they're a fine brand.

One flat and you are never running them again? Seriously wtf?

You seem like a schwalbe marathon plus or vittoria randonneur type of guy.

Some people only want one thing out of tires, for them to never flat. If you don't care even a little bit about ride quality, then all the really good tires people in here love are going to disappoint. 😳

This is not true. Of course there is an element of chance, but to a very large degree the amount of flats you will suffer, over time, is determined by the tyres you run.

I went from April-August, about 4000 miles including races, gravel events, rough pavement, etc., with no flats. Then our group ride hit some industrial staples that were spilled on the road. Front tire busted. 2 days later on a different bike, random thorn on a very short gravel detour. 5 days later, cut sidewall on a different tire on some gravel. In the rain. Bad luck definitely happens.

I also think the rider him/herself plays a part.

Almost 3,500 posts to this forum and we get the “one flat never again” type of trolling, come on you can do better than this.

I once got 3 flats in a week on Conti GP 4000SII. I then went 2700 miles without a flat on the same tire before it was worn and need replacement.

Glad I stuck with them.

Keep riding 'til you get two more flats - then you'll know it's a trend and not just a one-off and you can righteously condemn the tires. Then again, at that point, you'll have the flat trifecta out of the way and you should be good for another 5 years regardless of tire. I'm pretty sure that that's how it works.

It's probably been 40 years but the disappointment on my sister's face coupled with my realization that the world is full of lies is still burned into my psyche.

This must be one of the exact edge cases for age, because I've never heard of it at all.
