Cadence for large cyclists

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

You seem to really be into this subculture of cycling.

Maybe I have grown caution with age? Almost all of the video seems incredibly irresponsible and unsafe. The one exception is the hipster riding down a dirt hill.

As always though, you will do you for sure.
I used to be a bike courier, watching guys like this and other videos of people battling traffic is like watching an artist do their thing. At the end of the day, some cars will hate us no matter what, and any person on a bicycle is good for the general cycling community. People can hate, but IMO 2 wheels good 4 wheels bad. Probably gonna turn back into a bike courier because my professional job is threatening to fire me for not getting the covid shot

Being able to ride at high cadences has advantages for roadies though, thats why I trained for it.

Better stay away from people like Gypsy then. It might be uncomfortable riding a bike as a mule. You might be better off delivering food/meals with the basket on the back of the Giant. Or, if you like skid steering so much, you could get certified to operate a Bobcat.

Yes, because of unsafe, irresponsible, law breaking riders like those in the video.

If they want to race, they should pin a number.

It is ridiculous how they ride.

they arent battling traffic, they are breaking g laws and placing themselves and others in dangerous situations.
The moment one of them messes up and runs I to a vehicle, lives change forever. The rider may be paralyzed or die. The driver may be unable to drive again. Families are affected.

It's completely stupid and claiming the cyclists are battling traffic(as if that is somehow noble) frames the issue in a false narrative.
Some drivers will always hate cyclists, but riding in this manner ensures ALL drivers will hate cyclists.

I am not surprised to see why you may go back to being a courier. That fully tracks.

Couldn't agree more. I worked as a messenger in Manhattan in the late '70s, and even I have to suppress the urge to run over obnoxious riders. It took me only a few months of messengering to realize I made just as much money cycling responsibly as recklessly. My wheels lasted longer, too.

I guess those who will take one foolish risk are inclined to take others.

the panda guy in the beginning of this vid is holding atleast 130+ rpm. Being able to spin at very high cadences is a useful tool to have in have in the chest. If its the latter part of the group ride and everyone's legs are dead, sprinting at a high cadence can tax your cardio system when your legs are just too weak to sprint normally.
In all my years of cycling, I've never felt the urge to ride in a pink bunny suit.

If I'm doing the kind of riding in the video, I'd opt for a clown suit with a big red nose.

lol I'm pretty sure that they are literally pro riders from Italy. They are just making content like this for fun and it does bring more people into the sport, especially young ones which we need in America. Besides, the greatest cyclist to come out of America (Lance) was apparently a total jerk in traffic and blew stop signs/red lights and whatnot. The vast majority of cyclists follow the rules of the road, cars don't like us for a variety of reasons but riding crazy through traffic is pretty low on the list.

Riders doing crazy things in traffic are normally in big cities, this is a good video of how the better ones "flow"

The Laptop Class, which most roadies fall into, blaming poor people (couriers) for why cars hate them is peak delusion and frankly classist.

Sorry, continuing to play the clueless goof is a better fit for you. Pretending to understand anything about cycling or cyclists just isn't going to work out well.

Lol I don't have a car, used to cycle for a living, ride 200 miles a week, and ride with drop rides. I'm pretty new to being a "roadie" but I guess im a roadie because I ride in roadie rides. I don't know much about pace line etiquette etc, but luckily I ride with very experienced riders (multiple national champs) and am open to being coached.
