What happens if you don't grease pedal threads?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What happens if you don't grease pedal threads?

I rode about 200km on my new pedals after installing them, then realized I forgot to grease the threads...

I just took them off and reinstalled.

Everything seemed fine, but I'm wondering what happens in the long-term if you forget to grease the pedal threads?

ahh, i live in vancouver (60 inches of rain a year!), same climate as seattle. haven't been riding my road bike in the rain, though. now that they have a nice coat of grease it should be OK.

don't metals fuse together after a long time? something about a chemical bond, or reaction that naturally occurs, like if you don't move a seatpost for 10 years and it wasn't greased? especially when 2 different types of metal are coming in contact

Your wife comes back, your truck starts running, and you sober up. Oh wait, that's what happens when you play a country record backwards.

yes ....Although, I think it's just corrosion that causes it

One of my crappy old commuter bikes has the pedals stuck in the cranks.....and the cranks are stuck to the bottom bracket

What happens? You have a heck of a time taking them off a couple of seasons later. Oh and rust too.

Your dog gets better, and the bank gives you back the trailer.

It depends on how dissimilar the metals are and if moisture is present. You can put stainless steel next to brass and generally not have a problem, but if you put high carbon steel next to stainless steel, you will probably get some serious galvanic corrosion if they are in any type of moist environment.
