Rode my nice bike into a construction zone. It was packed dirt and I know the route. Down a hill and get to the bottom, they had watered the road for dust and the clay turned to sticky mud. Decision was to turn around and add 25 km to the ride, or press on for another 2km. Went forward and realized why they were watering, fist size rocks and the sheeps foot packer working the road. Easily the worst 2 km of riding I have ever done on a road bike, nowhere to get off and walk. The road is on the side of a hill with no ditch.

Its 2022 but today I managed to pop five inner tubes, threw away 2 tires, and used 4 patches on one tube and still had to throw it away. Just unreal.

Trusting Chicagoland weather forecasts. The forecast for anything more than 18 hours into the future in the Chicago area is always, always, always wrong. In fact, Chicago weather forecasting is frequently wrong inside of 12 hours into the future. If you've risked starting a century because the forecast is calling for "10% chance of rain", there's a 100% chance it's going to rain exactly when you're furthest from home and then continue to rain all the way home. If you dropped out of a group ride because at 9pm the night before the forecast says its definitely going to rain in the morning, it's guaranteed not to rain and your friends are guaranteed to have a good ride. If you've dressed based on a forecast of 68 degrees, it's going to be 53. If you've dressed for a forecast of 28, it's going to be 42. 5 mph winds from the north mean it's going to be 21 mph winds from the east. It's an absolute clown show here.

The biggest regret/mistake is always not choosing to ride more and while I consciously try to be mindful and present in each ride I always feel like maybe I didn't actively enjoy each ride as much as I could have when I am done.

I have a hard time being present on many of my solo rides - lots of distractions from work or life which generally make me not enjoy the surroundings as much as I could.

Sometimes last year I got indecision or perfection paralysis with trying to make every ride outdoors more special. Instead of fretting over the route choice too much sometimes it is just better to go with what you know and trust or go ahead and go explore without worrying about it.
Too much time wasted on Google maps and Strava maps maker sometimes when I already know how to get around town without doing the same exact route twice while still enjoying myself.
I just tend to not like routes with too much "ride time vs. total time" discrepancy and also don't like rides with a lot of "zero cadence". Both meaning I'm just waiting to ride my bike instead of riding it.

I missed too much riding time when it was cool, but not too cold.
Conversely, feeling bad about missing riding time and going out when it was quite foggy. Several times the visibility was scary.

I have always liked foggy rides (not too much though!). We have a national park closed to motorized vehicles nearby with a lot of elevation and I sometimes ride above the fog and even the clouds. A wonderful moment every time.

Did a week long tour with my buds, great weather almost the whole way even though the forecast was constantly calling for rain.
We got caught in a downpour on what would have been the second last day, and instead of riding the last 120 km all wet the next day I convinced the group to call for a ride. I regret missing that last day of riding, even if it might have been a little uncomfortable.

Breaking my elbow in a group ride in November and rehabbing since then.
Actually, the worst decision was to be on the wheel of the guy who overlapped wheels in a fast paceline and crashed right in front of me. I should've known he was an absolute n00b. My bad.
