Best to change the front chainring and the rear cassette and have her only use the rear derailleur when riding. In fact you could get away with leaving the 46T chainring and going to a wider range rear cassette. Try a 11-36T set of rear cogs and if the detrailer cannot handle the 36T then change the rear deraileur to a mid range one.

I'm using my old, basic, Altus derailleur with a goat-link on an 11-50 cassette. Shifts super fine!
