The first Zeppelin launched in 1900. By contrast, these are full of hot air

very cool
it took 70 yrs just for disk wheels (on bikes) to appear again. And the basic concepts of aero have only been refined, not altered much, from this stuff.

Both of them looks like they're going very slow. The spectators litter the race track right next to the racers without a hint of concern and even smiling! One of them seems to be walking closely behind the bike. Would not been possible had the bikes been moving at blistering speeds!

They haven't started yet. You can see the holders (the guys who keep his rider upright until the starting pistol fires) behind them. And judging from the crowd, they're not stating soon.
One thing people forget - back in that era, the brightest minds around were inventing bike stuff, not aerospace or computers. And no, we haven't gotten brighter over the past century. They thought up a whole lot of stuff that we now look at as brand new.

What we have got is a century of global collective scientific knowledge. So far lesser minds now have a massive advantage over the very best minds of 100 years ago.
