Immersive waxing / it should be more popular

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Buy the $12 Crock Pot from Walmart I linked above. 2 qt. is perfect size for waxing chains.

"Food grade" doesn't necessarily mean edible. It just means it isn't toxic within a certain food contamination level.

I have a can of food grade silicone spray. I wouldn't eat it.

A little silicone spray really brings out the subtle flavors of paraffin.

Heck, old candles and a hob will accomplish the same thing and you will smell good while doing it, Ask me how I know.

I know. That was why I said "theoretically". Since I wax my chains at home, if I get hungry, there is usually something else to eat.

My wife's candles smell pretty good but they might be more expensive than Silca Secret Chain Blend, so I would not risk doing that.

Let it simmer for a few hours with the dirty chain in it and the flavors blend like a savory stew.

Thanks for the tip on Gulf wax at Walmart. I paid 12 bucks at an Ace Hardware for it and see that it is priced similarly on Amazon.

Gulf wax for canning (Not candle making) works well on my chain.

The Gulf wax I see say both canning and candle making on the package. It is also available at some Ralph's, just not the one closest to me; a couple of days before Christmas is not the time to be going around to different Ralph's.

I missed it. Why is anyone looking for an alternative to cheap white candle wax from craft stores?

People are scrambling to find anything they can because, apparently, this thread has caused a rush on wax. I heard Brazil has declared a national emergency.

I realize you're kidding, but here's a lifetime supply for $30.

This thread did get me thinking of my own personal results from waxing. So I tracked my miles on 2 different bikes, one that is used exclusively in wet/nasty weather. Everything from heavy sea mist, pouring rain, standing puddles, and mud. I rinse the bike after each ride with fresh water to get the salt off and lube all the moving parts, excluding the chain. I get approx. 200 miles between needing wax. On the trainer, which never sees anything more than my sweat, I get approx. 450 miles between waxing. Real life results. I do protect the bike from my sweat, for what it's worth.
