This is my 5th day since Covid symptoms started and I’m starting to feel normal, again. The only symptom I have left at the moment is a runny nose and sore ribs from coughing hard a couple days ago. I think I’ll survive.

in your case, don’t push. I’m no doc but chest congestion can lead to or is bronchitis and can lead to damage. That happened to me 1986 when against my doctor’s advice, I continued to try to ride though it for weeks and I didn’t get well until I locked my bikes up in the shop and gave my wife the key. My chest X-rays show permanent scarring.

Might be a factor in why my lungs are the way they are. Docs say COPD. I always rode sick and worked sick. Sometimes the sickness would go on for weeks upon weeks. Zero common sense.

Thanks, I , like John and yourself, have always pushed through. It's too late for me too. Plus I'm putting on weight not riding, well I have been riding but it's not enough. It'll get better one way or another.

Do I go china made carbon wheels, or DT swiss aluminum wheels.

Pros of the china wheels, Carbon, look sweet. Had good luck with my last pair.
Cons: Always a little risky, customer support is lacking, and carbon rim brake makes me nervous.

Pros of DT swiss, legit company, weight is about the same, aluminum braking surface.
cons: Not carbon, price is a little bit more than super teams, will have to convince the wife it’s worth it.

It's a tough call. If you had to choose, since you are NOT racing, I would go with aluminum. I split the difference and ride Crabon wheels May-September and aluminum October-April. The handbuilt aluminum ones I got from Psimet2001 are really good BTW so you may want to check with him on pricing.

As far as carbon wheels and braking go, Reynolds pads are about the best around. I use them on all my carbon rims. Nothing can help in wet conditions unfortunately. Even aluminum rims don't bake as well in the wet.

Go for broke. Negotiate with Mrs. Bam. Once it is a done deal at home, get some carbon wheels with DTSwiss 240 hubs from LightBicycle or another Chinese vendor. Get the Schnitz brake track if you need rim brakes.

Mine have Carbon Ti hubs and the price was not much more than high end aluminum.

And I use Campagnolo carbon brake pads and the LB wheels stop about the same as Rolf aluminum with regular Campagnolo brake pads.

The one down side to the LB wheels was when I blew a tire right at the start of a group ride, when I ran with a borrowed Al wheel the brakes were very bad... Al wheel with Campagnolo carbon brakes.

Check ProBikeKit. They usually have good sales on Fulcrum wheels, which I like. The Fulcrum 4's on the Litespeed are really nice.

I re-handlebarred and re-tired the Trek 930 this morning. After a tune-up ride it will be ready to be a part of the regular rotation. It was calling to me. So, for the moment, there will be three in the Winter rotation. That is, if Winter ever actually arrives. I'll take the Paramount again today. Barring rain.
Oh, and I successfully re-used bar tape, without tearing it. I was having thoughts of Velo Vol and Mrs Bam. That vision kept my hand steady and calm.

All of this after I had it completely torn down for a re-paint, last winter. Then I got covid and just hung it up with the other frame sets. It does need a re-paint.

For last night's Zwifting, I rode for 45 minutes with Coco in Makuri. I could have gone an hour, but 45 plus a 5 minute cool down, plus the 10 minute warmup/spindown added to a nice round hour. The route was somewhat of an issue - about 1/3 of it was "gravel", so my virtual Canyon Ultimate with skinny virtual tires required me to add about 20-30w to keep up on those segments. I worked at staying with 4 m, mostly within 2 m of the Pacebot, which meant my power was kinda spiky. Good practice for how races seem to work. Speaking of races, apparently Zwiftpower saw fit to return me to the "D" category. Good to know that I'm not permanently stuck in "C", where a podium finish would require there only being 2 other C racers.
