Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My wife and I were talking about that last night and wondering what happened to all of my mom's old recipes. I assume my sister got them and lost them somewhere on her travels to the bottom of a vodka bottle, may she rest in peace.

Seriously, my mother wasn't a fancy cook but she made do with nothing.

Crash pads are a thing. I don’t do those though. A. I feel like i’m too old to share a room with another individual, let alone 4. B. Most of my flying is out of JFK by choice, and most of the crash pads are by LGA, the amount of money I would spend to uber back and forth is not worth it.

I also typically only need one or 2 hotels a month, come June this shouldn’t even be a problem anymore.

If she is still at AA I wonder if I have worked with her before.

I have no idea if she is still with AA. Her name was Lori Daniels. I don't have any contact information or any idea what she is now doing or where she is. My wife would not be happy if I had any contact with her as my wife replaced the stew.

She was from the DFW area, but flew the NYC/Caribbean routes. This was in the early 1990s, so a long time ago. Fun girl, but time and circumstances were not right for anything long term. I feel no need to reconnect.

I used to sail with a AA pilot named Jud Cary. His dad was also a AA pilot and fellow sailor (can't recall his first name). They were both DFW based.

Our sailing club had about 10 pilots (AA, Southwestern, maybe others) when I was active in that.

Unfortunately, for me, it is heavy on the meat and potatoes, with lots of Crisco and white sugar and Velveeta. And canned foods. Classic 50s and 60s fare. I don't eat like that anymore. My sisters and nieces use it though. I bet genejockey knows exactly the fare I'm talking about.

Speaking of flying, we are due to head back to the tundra on the 24th, early. Coincidentally, that is also when the weather is going to absolutely plunge here, with overnight lows of 19, 15, 21, 24, and 26. As early as our flight is, we'll shut off water to the house, drain it, turn off the water heater, drain that, and cross all our fingers and toes.

I wonder if the bear would still try to say #yearwithoutawinter

Standard Adams County PA fare. The stuff of Fellowship Dinners. But probably most of us over 50 have a lot of experience with this diet.

Luckily, Mom and Dad largely eschewed this sort of diet, especially as better foods became available more reliably. I mean, we used to eat canned green beans because fresh weren't available in the winter. Mrs. GeneJockey says before she met me she thought mashed potatoes came out of a box.

Looks like we are getting a similar thing. We aren't going anywhere thankfully, and now I know how to make keep the boiler in the basement going unlike last years cold snap when we were without heat (and had COVID). Probably still going to try and ride the mountain bike like an idiot though.

I cringe at the thought of seeing my stats for:

1. College football
2. Formula 1
3. Any of the Grand Tours
4. EPL (I blame my wife more for that)
5. The major marathons and tris

:shudder:

The reality is that these are mostly on as background noise, especially the Tours.

Atlanta Braves since they are blacked out. I can only watch out of market games. That sucks. I miss Braves vs Pirates games in Pittsburgh and in Atlanta.
