I'm sure it happens in other places, but the CA Coast Range is the only place I've seen clouds and cool sea air flow through gaps and tumble into hot, dry valleys. It's wonderful.

Well I turned 70 and the **** hit the fan. Plus, for the past two years we've not been permitted to do this type of testing, so it's backed up a bit. I'm learning the bus routes in Merida, and getting into a kind of flow of going in once every week or two. It's a nice city to walk around in, between buses.
The crux of the biscuit is my optometrist told me she couldn't give me a stronger left lens and I needed to see an opthamologist. And my right ear hearing has been declining steadily for the last year or two. It was discovered when I couldn't hear my wife talking normally from the shotgun seat. The right side is where my tinnitus resides, so I don't have a lot of hope. Maybe hearing aids. I know not a whit about that technology.

That part is in the Placerita Canyon recreation area. I never rode through there before today. The singletrack (Los Pinetos Trail) starts on the ridge above Sylmar. Today I climbed it from the Santa Clarita side on the fire road known as "The Beast".

Also the first time I descended that singletrack. Not super rough or technical, an XC bike could handle it.
There is some 12% on the climb and the very start is brutal, but I was able to settle in to a rhythm for most of the climb. The descent has some ruts near the top and some loose rocks and some 20%. I think there might be more hikers on the weekend.

Sometimes they move so fast. Last time I was up there on a cloudy day parts of the clouds were breaking off and floating around. It's cool when you are above them.

What kind of surgery do they do for macular degeneration? I know my eye problem is different but all I've received so far are 22 injections with a promise of more to come.

Yeah, I've said I'd hang out longer but she says with a friend who went through it recently and her friends she can handle it fine. I'll go back up in the case of a very unlikely emergency.

Even my poor old dog had it.

Of course, I'll still be jumpy until it's done.

They sometimes zap abnormal blood vessels with a laser, but that’s all I’ve heard of.

If I can't find a way to avoid the road section at the end I would consider parking at the Placerita Nature Center and do the road section first. Usually I go from home and climb May Canyon to the top of the ridge. From there, I can go to Camp 9 or go the other direction to Wilson Canyon. Wilson comes back down this side and it's a few miles of quiet streets back to the house.
Camp 9 is also accessible by road bike from Little Tujunga.

Didnt appear to be loose, but the caliper would move. The bolt was tight. I cranked it a quarter turn, will try it out tomorrow. Any thoughts on why the pedal was clicking? bad cleat?

My mother had macular degeneration. They used lazers to fix that problem, but then she got cataracts, which is pretty common Im told.They put in new lenses. Her vision is great now. It's been 10 years.

Today I had my appointment with my Neurosurgeon and he went over my results of the discogram and all other diagnostic tests I've had. His assessment was; do nothing and stay in pain or I could have surgery. I'm opting for surgery knowing the risks involved. He said I could have it done around Thanksgiving.

Unfortunately this took almost a year too long to arrive at this point due to several reasons that I don't want to re-hash. If this goes as planned, I could resume riding by June 2023. I have been off the bike since January 2021. January 2021 to June 2023. 29 months.

I'll be almost 60 by then and in the worst fitness of my life coming off lumbar disc surgery. I also now have Afib and am on a beta blocker. It's going to be a different world for me to deal with. I'll be glad to get on the other side of this and hope for the best.

I didn’t know that they did that for macular degeneration. Is the eyesight degraded afterwards?

I had a vitrectomy and laser zapping of bleeding vessels in 2011 in my good eye. Luckily, the bleeding and zapping was near the outer edge of the retina so it doesn’t affect my vision though I can find a blind spot in my peripheral vision if I look for it.
