Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

New pedals/shoes/shorts!

Hey guys, Had to buy some pedals/shoes/shorts. My shorts were too baggy and it was becoming a hassle. I love these shorts, no pain in the special area and easily pedal through the gears!!!

I also got some Look pedals and some Specialized shoes. I love these. It was a bit weird clipping in and out so I just adjusted the tensioner and it was fine. I havent had problems clipping out. Only sometimes clipping in is a PITA but thats ok...Its well worth it since I can now pull on the pedals with MASSIVE increase in acceleration. I havent attacked any hills but im sure it will be a PITA anyways.

I think im going to buy a jersey tommorow. I love the shorts and I think the jersey will help some too. My shirt was wet and it felt like I was carrying 2 gallons of water in it.

Thanks for reading and any advice is appreciated since I'm trying to learn all I can

you'll find that the pedals/shoes will provide a great improvement. I noticed immediate improvement after I took the baskets off of my trek 1000. Also, bike shorts sell themselves. A LBS doesnt even have to price them. Dont believe me??? Ride about 10 or so miles in a pair of running shorts.

yea I LOVE the pedals/shoes. Its good to know that you wont slip out of the pedal and you can pull on it when some of your muscles get tired. The shorts are nice, now time to wash them

I have specialized shoes on my mountain bike and love them...wouldn't buy a specialized bike...took my friend at the bike shop some convincing just to get me to try them on...but once I did they fit great! I've used them for a couple years now.

And my pedals on my colnago are look...I've only used look on roadbikes so I'm a bit inexperienced to say that they are the best...but I have no complaints! I'm sure you'll get used to them

yea the guy at the LBS told me that I would fall at leats 10 times trying to ride. I dont know it wasnt too difficult. Took me 5 minutes to figure out how to clip in and out and I was set. Its similar to snowboarding(I only tried it once) where you clip a certain way in. I love the gear I bought today. Now I need gloves and jersey.

My wrist area from thumb to palm is red after 15miles I need some gloves so soften that up lol

My ex-girlfriend used th specialized body geometry gloves and liked them...

Me I kill gloves fast on mtn bike so I ride with cheap LG fingerless...

On my roadbike I'm a geek so I have matching colnago gloves...they aren't special or anything but they colour match my bike

If you don't need the zipper and pockets a jersey offers, you might consider trying a wicking tshirt from WalMart, Target, etc. Around $8 - 10 and much better than just cotton t shirt.

Congrats on the comfort- which cycling shorts did you buy? Mine are wearing out and I will probaby replace them soon. Although it's great to support your LBS, E-bay is a good way to save money on items like jerseys, gloves, etc.

Gosh, I forgot what the name of the shorts was but it came with the chamois(sp)...I think its something like Uzini O(something like that, I"ll have to get home and check them out)

The shorts made a world of a difference for riding. I wouldnt ride without them . I am going to try a long array of hills today. I need to build up some leg strength. 15 miles is lame
