woo longest ride :)
I went on the longest ride today. It was 25 miles total and consisted of 2 HUGE HILLS. I originall started riding up towards the mountains to build my legs. I came up to one hill, no problem. I came up the the second hill, a bit tougher. I saw the third hill and thought I was going to have a heart attack. It was really steep and I downshifted to the lowest possible gear. I pushed, pushed, and pushed. I finally made it about 90% of the way before I almost lost my concience. I stopped to the side. I then regained my sense of being and decided to start going again. As soon as I start to push again I notice the front tire just came off the wheel
. I try to stop and the next thing that I hear is a LOUD POP!
4 miles into the trip and the tire is blown. Ok I thought, Just repump and on your way. Well I forgot to take my tube with me when I was packing. Great
I call my dad and ask him to bring me the foot pump and a tube so I can repair this bloody tire. He finally gets there after 30 minutes and 1 water bottle down. I fix the flat and pump to 90psi instead this time.
I take off and head for the hills. It was constant hills at this point. Just purely uphill for like 4 more miles. Through extre struggle and a few breaks on the way I made it up the hill. I then see the HUGEST hill ive ever seen in my life. I thought to myself to take it but it would be utter death. It looked like 20%+ uphill. I just dont have enough energy/skill left to climb this hill. So I just turn back and decide to hit some bike paths instead. I start going downhill(no peddling) I am going 25+(tells you how steep the hills were that I was going up). I hit 35mph all the way down. I was relaxed and started pushing back. Then I decided to attack those hills again just because I didnt do the crazy one at the top. Once again I make it up all the way up to the crazy part. This time I made it without stopping on the way but I couldnt exceed 10mph and It was mind over matter at this point.
This time going down I decided to drop it in the highest gear and peddle downhill. In aero position I hit 38mph. I was thrilled so I just kept riding. I am headed for some decent trials now. I finally made it to them and just rode around until about half-way. At this point I can barely move and I am exhausted! I have been going uphill(maybe 2-4% uphill at some points) and it was devastating. I start my way back. Its getting dark and I am getting nervous that someone might hit me so I make extra care that I ride to the right as possible. I kept pushing all the way home.
I started with 61 on my odo and ended with 86. I know its puny for some of you guys but this is the longest I've ever ridden in one day without a MAJOR break. I know I built some leg strength and I will keep trying until I can make it up the massive hill. Attacking the hills really seems to own me. I also have a problem "spinning" as some of you call it. My knee area gets tired of spinning so much. Is this something that I can build over time?
Well I am not going out tommorow but probably going to try to maintain a consistent 3-5 days riding a week as time permits. I love this, its so much fun...I cant wait to hit the 50 mark
Later guys
