hilly hellacious 100 riders?
Have any of you folks done the Hilly Hillacious 100 in Fletcher North Carolina in the past? My riding partner and I are driving down from Michigan to do the Metric Century piece this year (August 28th) and are interested in hearing about the ride from those who have completed it. Thanks much for your feedback!

I haven't done the ride, but I am doing the metric century also. The website says a little over 5000' of climbing for the metric, so it should not be too bad unless it is all in a 10 mile stretch.

I did it last year and it's a good ride although time is not kept. It's a well supported ride with good directions just in case you find yourself away from a group and by yourself (as I did). There is a very steep climb about 7 miles in called Bear Walla Mtn. and at one point I had to look at my rear tire; felt like I had flatted but it was just the steepness of the climb. I saw on chap on a very expensive Colnago come to a standstill and fall right over. It's not a long climb but watch out on the decent on the other side cause there are some opportunities for bad crashs. After that you plunge down into the Hickory Nut Gorge and ride around Lake Lure. Then you have to climb out and it is mostly a climb back to the finish. It's a great ride with lots of climbing. I'm betting you'll love it!

Haven't done the organized ride, but it encompases roads that are on alot of my rides. Bearwallow Mtn is pretty steep at the beginning, but then eases off, smoking fast decent off it too. The climbs typically aren't more than 5 or so miles long, but the kicker is that there is just alot of ups and downs, you are either climbing or decending. If you can recover quckly after each climb, you wont have any problems, if you like your climbs to be spaced apart or long climbs that you can just sit back and plod along for a couple hours, than you may have problems.

Bump.
Does anyone have any more information on the route? The website doesn't offer many details. Does "tough climbs" mean long climbs, steep climbs, or both?

We shall find out a week from Sunday. Are you doing the metric, or full century?

Yep no hills around here, and it is my first organized ride, so I signed up for the metric.
