Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Shimano caliper compatibility

Will tiagra brake calipers work with sora components? Updating an older bikes caliper brakes and tiagra calipers are cheaper than soras. Thanks as always

You might want to post in the Mechanics forums. In general, though, I think that brakes and levers from the same generation are compatible with each other. When you're mixing generations, like levers that are one gen old and calipers 3 gens old, you may get in to a situation where the pull ratios are slightly different and the braking is compromised.

You can also check with the Shimano tech docs, available on their website.

They'll work. And yes, should be in the mechanic's section. Where I'm still banned.

Shimano gives you all the stuff you need to figure this out. Depending on how old the Sora is you might have to go into the archives.

Yes, mechanical questions are better ask in the Bicycle Mechanics section. Not all of the knowledgeable mechanics and DIY'ers come to this sub-forum.
