2022 Bar Tape Measuring Contest. (Mileage for the year)

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I did the equivalent effort to ride 6256 miles this year. I don't differentiate real or Zwift. They all feel the same to my legs and heart.

I push data around all day every day at work, so of course I put together an exhaustive Excel file, broken down by IRL vs Virtual miles, and by bike.

Here's the summary page:

Clearly, Jackhammer is the bastard at the family reunion here, whereas Wizard is the favorite son.

So, 6362 miles, for those with a more permissive view of what counts as miles, with 335,901 feet of climbing. For those with a more restrictive view, 4945 miles with 279,822 feet of climbing.

At any rate, it's more than I've done before!

You need to cross-post to the bike naming thread!

(4.5" rain, all the roads slid out and/or have trees down, and power is still on, so this is all I have left).

Which one is The Ritchey? That’s the only one that matters.

People say that training seriously means counting hours, not distance.

In practice, counting hours/week is a pretty useful metric, but I haven't seen people post their annual hours.

It's probably about as much use as annual miles.

Or as lacking.

How about hours with an elevated heart rate? Let’s say above 140 bpm. Anything below that are junk beats.

I have a pretty low max heart rate. Almost all my beats would be junk beats by that metric.

my average rate for a ride outdoors is pretty consistent at 127 bpm. Higher in doors but haven't looked for consistency.

Wow, that is super low. What is your resting heart rate?

Yesterday’s indoor ride my ave BPM was 172 for an hour and mostly Zone 4. Today, outdoors my ave BPM was 165 for for 1 hour 47 mins with a max HR of 187 over a climb. Mostly Zone 3. Today’s average speed was 18 MPH, so it shows I was pushing. If I go out and just spin at 15-16 MPH my ave BPM is about 130. Resting HR this AM was 65.

i've measured before but never consistently. just measured 56 but not patient enough to lie down and do it properly. maybe in the morning before i get out of bed.

i did a ride on christmas eve that was supposed to be easy. i ended up riding with a lot of consistency. i was looking for an easy ride that did not require much thought so i did a flat ride. i ended up for nearly an hour riding my FTP (only 207). i actually found it much easier than doing the FTP tests. in that hour i had an avg heart rate of 136.17 and an avg power of 202.76. i was not planning that so i think i'll try it again and actually try to do a real one hour FTP test. i'm pretty sure i can bump up my FTP to 210-215 range. those 20 minutes tests kill me, i have a hard time riding to failure, im not sure what gives out first, legs, lungs, heart, or will power.

That is priceless.

I have done the 20 min Ramp Test on Zwift and even though it has me working at a high rate, the way they have it structured never takes me to failure, so the assigned FTP has to be low. There is however a 1.5 mile climb a mile from my house that can get me to my max no problem, but that is in about 10 minutes at redline. At my age, I understand that is no bueno for the heart.
