2022 Bar Tape Measuring Contest. (Mileage for the year)
Share your mileage for the year, see how you compare. Let’s find out who actually needs a life.
9,952 miles should be at 10,000 tomorrow which was the goal.
90 percent of that was outside for those who care.

I say up to 25 percent of your yearly mileage can be zwift.
In other news, 10,000 miles for the year officially completed. With a new born coming any second now, I imagine my miles next year will be 330. 2 road races and 3 crits.

For the second year in a row, I have't differentiated Zwift and outdoor miles. I used to keep detailed spreadsheets about every ride, but somehow a couple of years ago I just stopped. Also, Zwift miles used to be a very small portion of my riding, whereas now I do a lot more. So now Strava keeps track for me.
So, including Zwift, 9500 miles
It doesn't feel like it was a big mileage year, and that's the Zwift distance/speed exaggeration effect.

No, its going to be 6. That's 24 rides that your wife approves, only for her to call when you are two blocks away and she wants you back home.

No, they do not.
Correct.
Unless your indoor bike actually moved some unit of distance, none of those Zwift rides count as "miles". Save them for when someone starts a yearend thread about How Many Hours Did You Sit On A Bike Saddle? or How Many Revolutions Did Your Rear Wheel Make?

Hit my goal and surpassed it. That’s all that matters to me. Comparing to others is just a slippery slope.

lots of hamster wheel time, so not sure. a good chunk of outdoor time was spent road racing, track racing and training on my TT bike. those miles are pretty fast so maybe it was a decent amount

One person can ride 20mi with 200' of climb while another person rides 15mi with 1200' of climb.
Meanwhile, I could ride 20mi on zwift with 2000' of climb.
It's absurd to say someone rode 20mi outside and I didn't ride 20mi inside, especially given the difference in climb effort.
Outside miles are valuable just because they are outside. There are a yuge number of quite worthless outdoor miles that are just junk based on being flat or with wind or downhill.
...or just keep stay bitter.

Find a way to carve out some time. Bribe a family member, hire a babysitter, whatever it takes. When the kid turns 1, get them in one of those bike trailers. I pretty much stopped riding within 2 years of having our child and gained 60lb and a handful of medical problems over the next 8 years. It has been very slow progress getting back to healthy over the past few years, and I really wish I hadn't let myself go like that.

Oh, I imagine I won’t have that issue. Wife is pretty good about it, plus I will literally ride at any hour to get miles in. If I have to wake up at 1 am so be it. I just know the first couple of months are going to be rough.

Unfortunately, what UrbanKnight describes is rather hard to avoid. Best of luck, and keep riding. I have no idea what the future holds, but it is unlikely to be what you imagine.

I had 3. Each presented its own set of challenges, and a quarter of a century later, the gift keeps giving.
Which is not to say that it isn't worth it, but it did make me realize that going for a ride is a very selfish thing to do, but your health and possibly life depend on it.

Miles are distance, not steepness. A mile in Florida and a mile in Colorado are the same length.
