Addiction 2023.1

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'm not (but of course they're all fake miles). Leaning full back into trainer mode to build fitness though, and it's working wonders.

My best friend went on a mountain bike trip on Chilie. He used to ride a lot (road) a few years ago but hasn’t ridden much at all the last couple of years. He’s met me on the cap trail and has done 20 miles or so but this was like twice.

They told he he would need full suspension but all he has is a vitus hard tail (supposed to sell it to me)

He logged one ride and hasn’t posted anything else. I reached out to his wife and apparently he blew his knee out while trying to MTB up a mountain.

Hope it’s nothing serious, and the bike is okay.

Hope he is okay too.

I wanted to ride the mountain bike around the neighborhood but it had a rear flat. It's a pain because the tire is very difficult break the bead. Got it done and went out and got a front flat. Slow enough leak so I just pumped it up 3 times to get home. I should go tubeless or avoid thorns and glass.
It was very clear and chilly. There is a flood control dam up there and they are releasing water so some of my routes are wet.

I usually go under that bridge but there is way too much water. I've done that sort of thing but when it's warmer.

Nobody was flying at the model airport.

I stopped at this park to pump up the tire again.

My fitness is not where I want it to be, but i’m working on not over training this year. last year was all about miles and I was in the red a lot from Sept to the end of the year. Def did more harm than good, but I reached my goal and I can scratch that off my list. This year is all about what my coach has deemed my A race. I think it’s in July but it’s a road race in Franklin. He said not to worry about the other races, use them for experience and knock the Franklin race out of the park.

Training will be interesting. My MiL has been living with us since Simon was born, which has allowed me to go back to riding mornings, but she’s leaving next week and I don’t know when I will ride. When I take my daughter to school should work, but that’s three days a week. Otherwise my wife said afternoon, but her idea of a ride and my idea are two different things. I want at a Minimum 90 mins, that’s bare. Her idea is 30-60.

I've never broken a cable. And I left some on until they were rusting.

500 miles on the emonda and I might have to replace a cable.

What do we learn from this.

Where are people seeing each others activities? I’ve only rode 33 fake miles this week, but am planning a 16-17mi Zwift date night with my wife when we put the spawn down. The dogs will come down to the basement, bark at us on the bikes for a few minutes, then fight each other for toys for 10-15 minutes before being too tired from the hard lives they lead.

When our son went to Trieste, Italy to study abroad in 2019, one of his friends went mountain biking their first week there. The kid was/is a very experienced rider. On one ride, he crashed and fractured two vertebra pretty badly, to the point they were afraid he would have paralysis. His dad had to fly over and then flew his kid back in a hospital plane. Kids now okay, and has been back in the saddle for a while.

My wife would rather I work. I live in the world of billable hours, and I think I billed 2 hours this week. Have had a sore throat for 8 days, congestion, and now cough. Was totally hoarse yesterday. Fell asleep for several hours at my desk the other day. Left early another day, and came home to go to bed.

Had to cancel dinner with a client this evening. Hoping we’ll before Tuesday because we are going to dinner and the rodeo with my banker and a mutual client.

I remain Covid free however.

I broke one on my Propel several years ago. I have no idea how many miles it had on it. I could check my records if I were so inclined which I’m not.

I've broken front and rear cables on Campagnolo, bunch of rear cables on Shimano, broke the rear on bar-end friction on tour when in Kentucky somewhere.
Don't remember breaking one on a mountain bike. Been with others when they break stuff, too. I once pulled a cable into the big cog and tied it off to the seatstay for a guy after watching the ATOC go by.

There has to be 4K+ miles on my Marvel and my 6800 cables are just fine. I live in a hilly area so there’s a fair amount of shifting. Interesting.

Today I realized most of my bibs and jerseys are Castelli and Pearl Izumi. I’ve gotta diversify beyond the 2 or 3 other brands that are in the closet, but I get this stuff on sale and it fits well. That’s not counting the jacket my wife lost. To get anything else, I’d have to spend money and get rid of existing gear and I have no desire to do either.

I'm getting the same vibe. I posted a lot in some of the troll threads. Some of the stuff is interesting but some pig-headed people show up. Some are just looking to argue. I'm fine with a good argument but an idiot will just bring you down to their level and beat you with their greater experience.
