This afternoon I did a sweep of the church lawn. In the western most sector, under the big oak, I saw flowers starting to pop up.
wut
I'm sorry, little flowers. It may seem like we've had five months of winter, but in reality it's only been three. Sadly there are still two more to go.

I have had a good experience with Campagnolo EPS. Mine is quite ancient, maybe from the dawn of EPS time, and it shifts wonderfully. And only one battery. And it was under $400 off of eBay 5 years ago.
The cable shifting Campagnolo stuff on the solo Ritchey also shifts great, and so does the Ekar. Ritchey Breakaways are great bicycles made even better by the fact that when we visit our son Poppa Dan doesn't have to ride one of their Walmart bicycles. And that we can take the tandem across the pond with almost no hassles.
I have been drooling over a Time Scylon rim brake frame that is selling for a fraction of the original price, but I had said "I will never go back to cable shifters" and "my next roar bike will be disk brake. But the new EPS SR is over $4K, and I am cheap. Can the Record 12 speed be any harder to shift? Plus, I have the Ekar to ride in the rain or for touring.

Sorry to hear about the ETAP being such a pain. I have been considering putting an ETAP 12 speed Eagle on the Ritchey Tandem. On that bike an ETAP group set will make it much easier to pack into the cases and easier to assemble. Plus, I have found cable shifters on the tandem to be a pain to keep working. Always needing adjustment, what with the long cable runs. Isn't the shifter battery a CR2032? Maybe carry a spare? I could steal one from my heart rate monitor or garage door opener in a pinch.

It is what it is. I should have practiced taking the batteries out of the shifter, and I also should just change the shifter batteries automatically once a year. Had it not been dark and cold I would have prolly been able to swap batteries which would have helped me to get home. A guy on my race team said there’s a button you can push to shift it as well, not sure what he is talking about, then comes the app.
I’ve already expressed my fears over the app. Maybe they are unwarranted, but I know people on this site, and this very thread that got shafted by the app. In my cycling community I know people that got shafted. It was such a big deal Sram came to the LBS to talk about it.
It’s sounds like, if the app forces closes during an update then you have turned your groupset into a paper weight. People that I talked to who had this happen claim they didn’t close the app, and didn’t see the app close.
I have apps force close on my phone and Ipad all the time, so that’s unsettling.
Shimano Di2 is the same btw. If the app closes during an update you are ducked.

Also- I apologize, I thought you meant a derailleur battery, not shifter, that blows
My 11s Di2 failed to take an update a number of times. It looked like the system bricked but just had to pull the seat post, remove the battery and wait a few minutes.

I have to admit I was afraid when I took an update after ls01 story of bricking his ETAP. I wish there was a cable port on the RD solely for the purpose of usb based updates from a PC, but oh well.
Also- I apologize, I thought you meant a derailleur battery, not shifter, that blows

No worries. It was the shifter, and it flashed green when I did the press check which means it should last more than 12 miles.
Live and learn.

Mrs BD tells me I'm cussing and fighting folks 'all the time' in my sleep. Of course she exaggerates, however I have caught myself occasionally taking a swing at someone.

Last time I flew out of IAD, with a bike, there was a special belt to put it on, for oversize baggage. On this note, IAD would have to be my favorite airport to leave, and possibly to arrive at, due to their smooth and efficient operation, though getting out can take some time, with that final immigration check.
And, to finish the rant, air travel, in general, is something I'd very much like to put behind me. I was looking at my notes the other day and found that, when my folks were failing, I made six round trip flights to Virginia in one calendar year. Rental cars is another thing I truly hope is behind me. I'm making the trip in June, to Ohio, for a family gathering, and am telling myself it will be my last.

Never once had a problem with customs or immigration coming into the US other than some long lines in over 20 international trips.
Global Entry helps.
