Addiction 2023.1

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Weird dreamage here this a.m. The only part I remember is being in the back yard where I lived age 5-15, and seeing a tomato plant growing sideways along the ground. We actually did have tomatoes then, but they were staked up along the back wall.

Today it is 2 months since I broke my femur so I am cleared to ride tomorrow. The weather forecast is -3F, winds out of the west at 6-10 MPH, and partly cloudy. Great day to get back on a bike.

But ain’t nobody got time for that!!!!!!!!!

It is supposed to get really wet here the rest of the week so I figured I would wait before I do a deep cleaning of the chain, cassette, chain rings.
better come with a happy ending for $892/gallon.

When we moved to Belize, I had had no previous experience with it. It takes a long time to acclimate but once done, I wouldn't trade it for cold weather and snow. I would always rather be too warm than too cold. I wore a base layer on my ride, just to be sure.

Electronic shifting is dumb. Think about it, what does it do for anyone. Other than removing the cables for a cleaner look, my 105 mechanical shifts just as good.

Anyways, I charged the derailers last night on the madone. This morning I did a press check on the shifters everything showed green light. Get about 12 miles in, I am going down a hill so I am big Front ring, smallest cassette, start going up hill, try to down shift. Nothing happens. At first I thought it was the derailer so I swapped batteries and tried to shift the front derailer nothing happened. Then I realized I was ****ed. I tried swapping batteries out of the shifter but couldn’t get the bad battery out. Stupid, had to struggle back up the hill I just came down in big ring small cassette, and ride 8 miles back home. At some point it felt sorry for me and magically front shifted to small ring. Now I am in major cross chain issue, and it sounded terrible.

Something else I realized today.

The Madone brings me no joy. I never ride it. Really debating with myself to sell it. This was kind of the icing on the cake. I prolly won’t sell it because I would take such a huge hit. There’s a bike swap event tomorrow I wish I could go too.
use a pencil eraser to clean the brass contacts on the derailuer where the battery attaches. (I'm assuming this is the bike with Sram on it) how old are the coin batteries in the shifters?

The coin batteries are at the end of their advertised life. Still flashed green when I check it before I departed so it should have failed. Derailers were fine. left shifter battery died.
