It is what it is. I should have practiced taking the batteries out of the shifter, and I also should just change the shifter batteries automatically once a year. Had it not been dark and cold I would have prolly been able to swap batteries which would have helped me to get home. A guy on my race team said there’s a button you can push to shift it as well, not sure what he is talking about, then comes the app.
I’ve already expressed my fears over the app. Maybe they are unwarranted, but I know people on this site, and this very thread that got shafted by the app. In my cycling community I know people that got shafted. It was such a big deal Sram came to the LBS to talk about it.
It’s sounds like, if the app forces closes during an update then you have turned your groupset into a paper weight. People that I talked to who had this happen claim they didn’t close the app, and didn’t see the app close.
I have apps force close on my phone and Ipad all the time, so that’s unsettling.
Shimano Di2 is the same btw. If the app closes during an update you are ducked.

there should be screws, just twist it out. I couldn’t get the hood back enough.

You have axs. Etap is the earlier 11 speed version. I know sram says it's the same but it isn't. Yeah, the whole thing unscrew on yours. The earlier trap door had one or 2 tiny Philips screws that held it in place.

I had my Retule fitting on Tuesday. It was quite in depth. Made my bike a lot more comfortable and my pedal stroke has opened up tremendously. I was way too low, and to far back. My saddle is all the way forward now and 3/4 of an inch higher than before. I did 30 min on it the night of the fitting and 2 hours today, I did Innsbruck twice. Way better than before.

When I got my first gravel bike on 2/13/21 I took it out for a 45 mile ride at 10 degrees with 10-15 winds. I got hypothermia, water froze, ended up in urgent care getting a banana bag to rehydrate me.
Wife was pissed. Lesson learned(dress warmer)

If memory serves the coin battery xharge can be accessed through an update on the app. Some head units can be programed to display it after you download the new firmware. I elected to swap out batteries every other year.

I was a big Sram guy until they turned on me. I read everything I could on thier products. I started with Rival, bought a Force groupset before the rival had its first bath. The next year I bought 2 Red Exograhm groupsets. I skipped 11 speed or Red 22 as they called it because I was happy with 10 speed. Then I built the Force axs 12 speed bike. And upgraded one of my 10 speed bikes to E tap 11 speed within weeks of each other. After a year of riding both bikes I moved the Etap group to the Force bike and rebuilt the other 2 road bikes with Red 22, 11 speed. Force axs, and Dub standard soured me on Sram. Sram was the little guy punching up. With Electronic shifting, and Dub, they became everything I despise about industry and buisness.
