Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Maybe it's more like 90% rider. That 10% is where the gains are.

Please don't encourage him. It'll be your fault when he posts videos of his walks and in-depth leaf analysis as he walks by different trees.

As you know, I went from a very nice custom steel classic to a soulless plastic bike, shedding a few lbs of system weight in the bargain. My estimate is that there was about a 6% increase in speed across the board and I picked up another percent or two when I upgraded the wheels. I think this was a combination of placebo, weight, aerodynamics (mainly rider position), and the modern fit. The newer bike is also much more comfortable, despite, and maybe even partly because of, the greater drop.

I miss flying R/C, but there's no way I could get back in to flying powered models at the moment because I don't have the space for charging infrastructure and storage.

Now what I really want is a nice F3K discus launch glider. But talk about an expensive airframe

A reviewer indicates the GPS tracking is only modestly accurate. So the walk measurements might be a tenth of a mile off.

The more fundamental question is, do I need walk tracking? I roughly know how far I'm walking. Do I need a sleep monitor (whatever that is)? Will it help my sleep? Do I need a step counter? No.

Seems the only real reason to get this over a basic watch is to have some numbers to look at when I'm bored.

It'd be a change from the Google Maps street view content he's been posting.

Yes, but change for the sake of change is not always a good thing. Since it will be a new thing for him, he might very well post more. Be careful what you ask for.

If it's the bike according to them, that stokes demand for new bikes. Follow the money.
