Addiction 2023.1

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

50° here, but downtown in the shade it feels much cooler. For a desert rat 50° is like 30° anyways.

Bam is sleeping in apparently...

It's only money, right? I was talking to a fiend on the ride yesterday and he has a 66 Mustang convertible stored in his garage. He said after he retires he is going to restore is into a Shelby "clone". I said, yeah, spend $50K on it and you can probably sell it for $50K. Those are just butt numbers, though. Plus, he wouldn't be building it to sell.

Well, operation "minimum light after dinner" appears to be working. Ordered up some blue-blockers, as well. From Rosa, because obvs.

I think the Dodge ran until about 7 years ago or so. It my FIL’s father’s truck. He passed when my FIL was 18.

The truck is in great shape on the body. The interior needs some work and the motor probably needs to be rebuilt. He has everything needed to do it in his garage- a lift, engine crane, all sorts of other things I’m unaware of what they do…

He replaced the engine on his 80s Mack dump truck about 15 years ago with a couple of buddies so he could probably do a lot on the cheap. That Mack is still in the garage too and runs like a champ.

He also has an excavator, pay loader, back hoe and a Farm All tractor that’s in pretty good shape.

What I usually did with old cars was do just enough to get them driveable so I could have fun driving them around. I only did paint and interior stuff on one and it didn't come out as nice as I had hoped. I also did paint and interior on my 65 Chevy truck but it was my daily driver for 19 years.

I finally got some real miles in. It’s not enough to podium, but I think I may keep my usual KOM crown.

Kudos. Pre-Zwift, I would readily ride in that temperature. Now that I am older and Zwift is an option, my new cutoff is 20-ish. Maybe mid-teens if sunny and no wind and friends to ride with.

Update review on electric gloves. They were PERFECT for today. The minimum temp was about 24-25, and it slowly warmed up to above freezing after about 2 hours. The battery life on “high” is coincidentally about 2 hours, and once temps above freezing the electric heat is not necessary. So for a long ride in the 20’s, or for temps well below 25F, I would still use my mittens. YMMV

I usually take my contact lenses out around 6-7PM and spend a couple/few hours in my glasses which have the blue light filter in them and I noticed a difference when I started using them too.

It’s not you. It just sucks.

My wife walked into the room during the halftime show and said “put your damn phones down” then walked out.

If it's a generational thing, it's a whole additional generation, because not only do I just not like hip-hop (and had never heard of them and didn't like them) but AG does like hip-hop (and had not heard of them, and didn't like them). Maybe the kiddos like them.
