Addiction 2023.1

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

In fairness, outfitting an $8500 frame is relatively less expensive than outfitting a $1000 frame. Even using DA on the one and 105 on the other.

Do you suppose I could use that argument with Mrs. GeneJockey?

Successfully, I mean.

Now, let's say you buy a $8500 Officina Battaglin Portofino R. How much does it cost to outfit it with the newest Dura Ace Di2? Around $4000 - less than half the price of the frame!

EDIT: It's in an interesting way to look at it, but one likely to lead to divorce and bankruptcy.

The key word is "relatively."

A $3,000 groupset is less expensive relatively on an $8,000 frame than a $1,000 groupset on a $2k frame. One is 37.5% of the cost of the frame while the other is 50% of the frame cost. Thus, one is relatively less expensive than the other.

I'm looking forward to the drive up. Peaceful zen time, for the most part.
NYC is about a four and a half hour drive, driveway-to-hotel-valet-station. Probably about the same transit time as flying. But way cheaper, even factoring in a fairly pricey parking charge.

If she's ok with the Battaglin, you could be ok with "well that was just the frame, now I need to build it up". Would work with AG. Wouldn't work as a reason to get the Battaglin in the first place, though.

I just bought my Superbowl game pass. $1.11 this year. I think it was an even dollar last year. The peso is somewhat stronger this year. Maybe I'll watch it on the wife's new 43" tv.

It doesn't say custom frame. As long as you get to choose components and/or wheels, saddle, or other, I think that counts as custom bicycle.

Case closed.

I won't even be watching it - no antenna at Mombug's, and not paying Fox. Would get ParamountPlus, already have Peacock, but I'll just have to GamePass it if it's good. If the Wiggles win, meh.

In expectation that my (currently) 2-1/2 month-old grandson will be ready for his first bike in a little over a year, I did some shopping, and found what appears to be an amazing deal - 50% off!! My wife didn't seem impressed with saving $500. Women are so confusing.

I think she'd be okay with the Battaglin if we won the lottery.

They should be paying you to watch with the ad revenue it generates.
