Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I think my HRM (Garmin Pro+) is need of a beating, I did a quick 4mi Zwift ride in which I kept getting off my bike to adjust my seat, and the stupid thing said I was in Zone 3 for 12 of my 14 minute ride. I didn’t even get warm, let alone break a sweat.

Stupid HRM.

They're saying we probably won't get any of this one here in Phoenix, and only a slight chance of small amounts of precip up in Flagstaff

Looks like I’m gunna lose the new 175mm cranks in the trade. They were cool with me taking everything good and giving them all the old, but when I put the new crank set on the cervelo, I threw the old chain rings away. I went to bring them the old crank set today and realized it was missing pieces.
I usually don’t throw things away so pretty bummed about it.

So, what you're saying is that school in TN is lagging behind that in MN? Makes sense.

We had school through December 21 (also probably started the year earlier), so I suspect it's you'uns who are trying to keep up.

Did she meet her brother?

Mrs John's niece had her baby 2 days before Christmas and they only let her husband in the room. Grandma didn't even get to go in.

It wasn't supposed to rain here yesterday but I got rained on around noon on my mtb. Today they said it would start at dawn and rain all day. I stayed home and it didn't rain a drop until after 11:00. Oh well, extra rest day.

When we had our first, my MIL was told by the nurse that if she wasn’t there for the conception she couldn’t be there for the birth.

Ever since the big storm hit on Saturday, they've been warning us about this storm today, but as far as I can tell, it blew through, dumped about an inch of rain, and blew out. Mrs. GJ and I went to the trouble of making sandbags - DIRTbags, really - to keep the water from coming into the garage, I spent time and effort digging a trench to carry the water away from the area outside that door, and she and The Younger Boy collected all our flashlights for testing and renewing batteries.

I left work a little early because it was supposed to be at its peak between 5 and 8. Turns out, it was at its peak while I was driving home. I decided NOT to Zwift, in case I suddenly had to go clear the trench or something. I'm relieved that it was no big deal, but a little miffed to have not ridden.

I also have a Canon R with the kit 24-105 f4 lens.

I was considering switching solely to the R bodies and RF lenses as they are lighter and there is now a wide range of "L" quality lenses with that mount. Before Christmas, I put everything that wasn't part of a mirrorless system up for sale, and got no interest whatsoever. Was quite frankly surprised by that as I thought my prices asked were very competitive based on Adorama, KEH, and local sellers' prices.
Eew, I see you're a Canonite, I'm a Nikon guy. lol/jk
I have a few lenses I need to get rid of also, been dragging my feet because I hate the process. For the time being I'm sticking with what I got ("you got to know when to hold them"), although actually at this stage in my life I hope the mirrorless bug never bites me. If anything I might sell the 500 and get a 600mm if things fall right. Otherwise I'm content shooting what I like, nature and sports. And bridges.

I think you've got another wave of rain coming through, looks like it'll be short lived though.

Yeah, that's been the story of this storm so far. Short, intense rain bands. At ~5, the precipitation rate shot up to 0.6"/hour, but then fell right back down. Since then it's been no higher than 0.1"/hr, and mostly much lower.

Yea she got to meet him yesterday. She held him for a bit, and is super excited to be a big sister. We shall see how long that excitement last.
