Addiction 2023.1

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I don't care. I bought it because I had nothing else to do with the loot. I had my fun with it, now it's time to move on.

Oh look, a Ferrari!

Not a long weekend here. I go to see the doc on Monday. Tomorrow, however, I have a ride planned, after a week's worth of house guests ended today. Best house guests one could ask for.

We can only dream of the guests coming in March being so easy. We've known them both for many years.

My Neurosurgeon's office told me not cancel the appointment. I could be on the hook for the entire cost if the surgery is denied. Why does everything have to such a pain in the ass?

Wednesday's race seemed to confirm that - I finished 40th out of 53 riders, 1:45 back in a 9 mile race. I lost nearly 2 minutes in only 9 miles! Cripes! Still fun, though, outsprinting a couple guys for 40th....

Last night it was a Time Trial - a really short TT. A little over 2 miles. Since I figured it would only take abut 5-6 minutes, I figured I'd see if I could do 300-350w the whole time, and that worked. My time was 5 minutes even for 3km. Turns out I took 3rd out of 13 riders. A podium finish. In "C"! And in my first TT ever.

Of course, this is all on Zwift, so it's completely unreal - instead of fitting myself into an aero position and trying to put out power, or having to handle a TT bike in corners, I just had to put out as much power as I could for 5 minutes - the only skill involved is estimating how much power I could put out consistently for how long. I don't think Filippo Ganna has anything to worry about.
We can say put out?

While putting off moving the brake booster from minivan #1 to minivan #2 I decided to check for more vacuum leaks and I found a gaping leak - these come with two intake manifold vacuum ports plugged. The one on the back had rotted and the end had fallen off! So I got one off minivan #1 popped it on there and I have reasonable fuel trims again and no misfires. It had been lighting the CEL for lean condition ( it gets mad when combine fuel trim gets above +40 or so. Now I can pass smog next month, get new tags and consider getting rid of the hissing brake booster at my leisure.

Getting my bikes ready for the race tomorow. Decided to bring the madone and the emonda. Emonda didn’t get everything done that Inwanted too, but will talk about that later.

Just put this brand new chain on the madone and it’s bending weird at the quick link. I don’t want to burn the quick link by reopening it. SRAMs says they are only good once. Any thoughts?
