Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Since there has been actual rain the weeds have been growing and they were 4 feet high in part of the yard. My neighbor noticed and put his string trimmer over the fence as kind of a hint to me. (I've been borrowing his trimmer since mine assploded).
So yesterday I started weed whacking with his ancient trimmer and the motor started smoking and slowed to the point where it wouldn't cut wet tissue. frack. Drive to Home Depot and purchase the cheapest Black and Decker corded trimmer they had and it's like a whole new world. Like going from a Schwinn Varsity to an S-Works Tarmac.

Really didn’t matter, after the first lap I was in the front, the first turn was misleading, I was aware of it others were not. I didn’t want to be involved in crash, let the guys think that they are bad ass burn matches the first 3 laps. Half those guys in the front didn’t even finish.

Those are 36 spoke Open Pro rims on Ultegra hubs. About 2000 grams.

Yes, umd is a serious cyclist. But unclear if ummed is same guy, anyone know?

Last week I got a survey from Cafe du Cycliste. Fill out the survey and get a 20% discount code plus a chance to win merch. I doubt if anything they make will fit me but I filled it out anyway. I finally got the coupon code this morning and it expired yesterday.
It's a moot point because even with 20% off their stuff is waaay to pricey for me. Looks nice on their models, though.

Doubt it. umd has 2 kids now and he got hurt in a race a few years back. I haven't seen him in a long time but I know he still rides as does his wife.

My wife has her own cordless weed eater. For those times when she used to bug me to do it.

I am somewhat lighter weight than I was a year ago. Old man shrinkage, most likely. And I'm finding myself enjoying walking (almost) as much as cycling

In my experience, it depends on the kind of rider you are. As someone whose best weapon was sprinting, 95% of a crit for me was doing as little as possible while keeping myself in position to get where I wanted to be when it was time to launch. My happy place was surfing in the top 25% of the group, and paying close attention to what was happening. Lollygagging at the back was too risky to get trapped behind a crash or split in the group. Understanding when it was time to burn a match, and when to be patient, was part of the game. Constantly trying to get off the front was never my tactic, but I had to be wary of breaks that might have the power to stay away and take away my best chance to win. Having strong teammates is helpful.

Good news. Emonda fork appears to be in tact.
Throwing 2 new spokes on and straightening the wheel.

Bad news. Took the Madone in as well for the chain kink. I couldn’t get it out myself. While the mad scientist was getting that squared away he noticed my brakes suck. I just assumed that was the sram.
Nope, brake pads are toast.

grumble, Sram pads do not last as long as shimano.

Put new pads in, and noticed my head set index’s straight. He has the same bike as me, and his nor any other madone has done this. It has done that since forever. I though it was a madone thing.

Anyways, that is getting checked out. I can’t imagine what would cause that, also strange if it’s not supposed to happen that it does happen perfectly straight.

Trek 5200? I tried to bring that in too, but could only fit 2 bikes in the mini van. He doesn’t think the chain ring is causing the skipping. Most likely cable tension, I guess that’s good news.
