Addiction 2023.1

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Sold. The only bike to my name now is the S1, which was set up to mirror my P2 position (so tri config) and so firmly trainer-only that when it was set up for that, they didn't put on brakes. And I mean no calipers, no levers, no nothing. And of course no wheels. The R2, P2, and Topstone are sold.

This is usually two-way travel here, I guess you've gotta play chicken for now...

Meanwhile up on I-80 proper

Probably one ended up there.

On my walk/run route from the office there's a shopping cart in the creek. It likely came from the grocery store almost two miles away.

What is wrong with people?

Yeah new bikes man, I just don't know. Tapered forks, thru axles, brakes with juice in 'em, batteries, some silly bottom bracket sort of thing...

This Eyetalian Ti is looking awfully tasty though!

Oh my, they make a nice steel rig too. Holy cow! I'd want to opt for a more moderne bar shape though.

Understandable that you don't want to be on the roads again, though this seems a bit extreme.

I suppose I'm lucky in that the worst injury I've ever gotten while bicycling is scuffed-up skin.

Weed snow is not unusual, and definitely not this year. This was just south of Weed in early December.

I'm sure rim brakes will come in and out of fashion. Once everyone has disc brakes them someone will sell everyone on rims as giant discs to sell more bikes, and the circle of marketing will continue. Aside from the frame itself the only thing you really have to worry about losing support for is wheels. I don't think that will go away any time soon, but choices are decreasing.

I specifically sought out a rim brake frame.

Get a size 56, and when you're done with it my daughter will pick it up from you. You can suffer thru the smaller size for a few days.

I wouldn’t bet any money on that happening. Disc brakes are a pretty well-proven technology. Bicycles were just slow to get there.

They have advantages and disadvantages for road bikes. I think there will be enough of a market for it for a while as a niche product.

It’s warming up out there! Up to 31F, and once the French Press coffee is finished, time to get ready to ride!

took the emonda again this morning. Noticed a clicking noise coming from somewhere up front when cornering to the left. I don’t think it’s the brake pads, there is no noise when sprinting or just out of the saddle, and it doesn’t make the noise when cornering to the right.
