Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

But I do understand the draw.
I did the Mount Wilson NYD ride (some variation of it) 16 times. Some years there were 200 cyclists on the road up there. Sometimes it was windy, rainy, or too much snow to summit. One of the last times I went all the way up it was 22 degrees when we turned back. I had experimented with different clothes and even tried the Camelbak with a jacket stuffed in it. Ended up using a cheap hooded windbreaker that Mrs John found at a thrift store over my other layers. Easy to roll up and carry in a pocket.

There is a tiny concession vendor in a building 5 miles down from the summit and they have a pot bellied stove. I came down and my friend was shivering in there. She didn't bring enough layering. It's 20 miles of descending after you summit @5500 feet.
Here I am getting high.

A big group near the bottom of the first climb.

Do planks. Pushups. Get on the parallel bars and do leg lifts.

Works for me anyway.

I can try planks, at least.

I've had minor back annoyance before, but usually it goes away in a few days. This has been two weeks.

Tonight I was driving down the long on-ramp to America's great motorway, I-40. A Pilot/Flying J tanker merged in front of me.

I noticed couple sparks bouncing off the ground under its back mudflap. wut

When it got on the interstate I passed on the right side. Looked over on the far side and I saw the rear wheel was partially lit up with lots of sparks.

Flat tire. Wheel was scraping the road.

Full marks to anyone who knows where that's from.
Without googling, I got nothin.

Grundig always makes me think of boats and more importantly '90s MTB racing...

Smooth surface. Narrow bars. Hardtails.

Last I heard Tinker is still racing and he's in his 60s. I've seen him on the road in the local mountains and he climbs fast but it looks like he's taking it easy.

It seemed like the spark nucleus was a couple feet above the ground, but I didn't get a good look at it.

I was mentally preparing to be enveloped in a giant fireball.

Oh my, I haven't heard this song in ages.

I don't need DougRNS for music discovery after all.

Watch F1 racing. A little sparkling is no big deal.

The Harvard Lampoon's "Bored of the Rings", a satire on Tolkien. This particular little ditty was a parody of the inscription in The Ring.

Another foot of snow this weekend- great. My poor daughter has an audition / scoring for music tomorrow morning, which looks like it will be right on the middle of the storm. NYSSMA has essentially said there will be no weather cancellation regardless of how much snow we get- I just hope my ex can get her up there. She’ll be devastated if she misses it.

So ready to be home. Calling for 30 mph winds tomorrow, should make the Crit interesting. Race organizer talked about pushing it til Sunday which J was all for. I guess I was the only one. It was windy last year and it sucked, this year will be even windier.

I plan on bringing the emonda, 5200 and the madone. Madone is still in the shop but if I can get home tonight in time I hope I can pick it up.

Emonda for the 3/4 madone for the masters and the 5200 for the 4/5.

I havnt gotten to ride the 5200 since I put the new quick link on. The fact it went on so easy worries me a little bit. Also I havnt worked out the skipping the issue. It isn’t consistent, so I don’t think it will be a problem. Between the masters and the 4/5 I have some hours to kill, so I can test ride it and throw some hard efforts at it to see what it does.

Only immediate issue, Getting home today is not looking good. All the flights are full.
