Addiction 2023.1

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I ski a lot, so I’m okay hitting the deck when I do something stupid. I’m not sure I want a double date with road rash and snow when I do something stupid. I guess it’s better than the alternative though.

Note the not so subtle bicycle content.
Why not post what we did 3 years ago today. Right when Covid was starting. This was an after work ride before the sun set.

I looked at my Strava training log. What I did today 3 years ago was - NOTHING! The rest of March 2020? NOTHING! My last ride before the lockdowns was March 1, 2020

The next time I rode outside, April 26, we were under the "5 mile radius" rule.

Welp ****. The madone is still out of the commission.
Went to pick it up today and they have to warranty the Left shifter. Changed the brake line, bled the brakes twice, and it’s still squishy.

So now I’m bringing El diablo, magic man, and the frenchie to race tomorrow. Still supposed to be super windy, so I took the super teams off the frenchie and put on the mavics krysiums. Of course nothing can be easy, loading it into the car I noticed the rear wheel has a small amount of play in it. So now I don’t think I will race the frenchie at all.

New seat post clamp came in for El Diablo. Put that on, inspected and cleaned and lubed all the bikes. Everything is ready.

Never rains but...

Glad you're still able to race.

Thanks. The random skipping and the sketchy quick link makes me a little nervous about the 5200 but is supposed to be gusting 30 mph tomorrow so I am thinking I’ll take my chances, with the chain over the aero wheels on emonda.

March 3,2020 It rained. I rode 3.15 miles with the family.

March 4,2020 it did not rain. I rode 25.15 miles at 18.1 miles per hour. I did not have a heart monitor yet, nor power meter, nor did I know what zones were at that time. I am sure I was balls to the wall every ride. This was also all on the old CAAD 4. RIP.

Simpler times. I remember when I just went out and ran. Pace? Distance? Eh, I had a decent calibration. When I got my FR305 I learned I was within 10% usually.

Ho-hum commutes for me M-F. Looks like Friday the 6th was our last day in the office.

First proper ride on the Ritchey Commando was Sunday March 8th though, pretty momentous occasion.

I was traveling home from Florida on 3/3 and 3/4/2020 trying to beat the lockdown which came a few days later in Illinois.

Knox County hit hard. Fortunately, we are a resilient peoples.

The power at the office went out for a while. I went to the car and took a nap.

We reached neither 40P nor 55 kph today, but there's still the weekend. We had out of control fires though, in both the Merida and Tixkokob dumps. Thanks to the southeasterlies, the smole from the Tixkokob fire passed to the north of us.

I haven't recorded anything since the 90s. I do have mental notes and I often ride with Mr Data and he spits out stats about everything.

This time in 2020 I decided to return to cycling with a vengeance and ordered a Bianchi. Then I learned about Strava, Wahoo, Zwift, Garmin and all sorts of money sucking opportunities to get in even deeper. And worst of all, I found BF. Heaven save my soul.

Have to say that cycling is far cheaper than vintage sports cars and far healthier.
