Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Current snowfall is just shy of 13 inches. It didn’t start until 9:30 last night.

Surprisingly- roads are clear-ish

I remember promises being the extreme ethical person I am. I don’t remember that, but if it occurred I would. Just wouldn’t remember the date.

Well, I seem to have left my little needle nose vice grips in the tool bag on the boat, but the big pair at home removed the baby bike bolts with only a few scratches. Now, however, I need a step-down adapter to make the bleed cup I have fit the threads on the reservoir. Yay, more shopping!

Overnight, the probability of rain during the C&V ride dropped from 98% to 89% but we canceled anyway. Which means it won't rain at all then.

3 years ago now I was hating my job and put out my own shingle.

Athletically I had not come back to cycling. I was golfing, skiing, running and doing weights a lot. During the pandemic, I got back into cycling. And then in July I had my bike slide out from under me when I was going fast and broke my pelvis in 2 spots and 3 of my ribs. So then in 2022, I really got back into cycling.

I did my weekly ride this morning. It was hot when I set out, at 8:45. and hotter when I returned 1:45 later.
Oh! And according to RideWithGPS, I hit 84.2 kph as my max speed.

I did a third TT on Zwift last night, part of the Zwift TT Club. The route was in the new "Scotland", "Rolling Highlands". Zwiftpower says it's either 14km (8.4 miles) or 9 km (5.6). The Zwift page for the event says it's 5.6 miles with a 3.2 mile lead in. Zwift Insider says it's 9 km. SO, I figured it would be 5.6 miles, and I targeted 260-290w as the power I thought I could push for that length.

In previous weeks, each TT began with an untimed lead-in of varying lengths. The display is different for TTs from the normal one. Normally on a route, or in a mass start race, there's part of the display that counts down the remaining distance. For some reason, in TTs it doesn't do that. You only get the distance counting up.

As I was approaching 5.6 miles, I thought there was a marker ahead, and I pushed for that, but then there was an intersection where Zwift sent me the other way, with no marker! So I kept going, pushing at about the same power. At 6.6 miles, there was one of those "end of route" arches, so I pushed for that. Then I went through it and the timer didn't stop! I wasn't sure what to do, so for about 2 minutes I dropped down to 190w, before deciding to just go for it and push through the end, where ever it was. It ended up being something close to 9 miles, but at no point was there a distance countdown, so I wasn't sure the arch was the finish until I went through it and the timer stopped. Geez!

So, apparently I went harder than I thought, and based on the power I put out over the first 6.5 miles, Intervals.icu increased my FTP 18w! Which means I've been dogging it all this time, and I'm more fit than I thought.
