Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Felt crappy again but went to the club start anyway. Good sized turnout considering it was 45 degrees and breezy with dark clouds around. I latched on to the group heading for an 80 mile route and we sprinted from light to light across the valley and eventually 4 of us bailed and went back for only 50. There was enough climbing to get me soaked before the 3 mile descent so I got pretty cold then. Warmed back up once back on the flats and pushing a little.

It was fun but I would have chosen a different route back to avoid the descent and the awful traffic my friend picked for us. Cold, blustery days have their own special appeal.

Oh, when I was out walking this morning I saw a group of a dozen or so on tri bikes, drafting, with many in aero.

Afternoon walking activity (today's schedule didn't allow for a ride) and I saw one guy holding a road bike, talking to a neighbour, presumably.

Ugh - it would suck to lose our snowblower. Hopefully the light use this year means added longevity.

No, thankfully, but it took me a while to walk normally and an equal amount of time before I could run.

And while the pelvis and the ribs sound bad, nothing was worse than the concussion that hung around for a couple/few months. That fog was miserable.

If your commute is that short, you should be on one of these.

I spend less that 2 hours a week in mine. But it's paid for. Does that disqualify me? I need to get one of those solar topper uppers for the battery, because we use it so little.

Usually Trainsnorter awaits my race report.

Today was blah. I didn’t crash, nor did I win. The wind was crazy, and the riders were super strong. I couldn’t seem to get in the zone.

Cat 3/4 was first. Field was lapped within the first 5 laps. Race was over. Group of 6 broke away and no one chased them.

Next up, masters 35/45. Group broke away in the first 5 laps. Race was over.

I felt better in the masters than I did the 3/4. The 3/4 had way too much surging, and a couple of squirly guys must have liked the way I smelled or something. No matter what I did these two were always around me, waiting to take me out.

I was supposed to do 4/5 but the woman’s masters had a really bad accident at the finish. Took out one of our team mates, the other female was unresponsive. I did not see what led up to the crash but I did watch it happen. Literally at the finish line the other team woman went over her bars and landed head first. It was pretty scary. Ambulances had to come which pushed the race schedule. Honeslty I was too tired to do another race. So 4/5 went after I went home and that one had multiple crashes and a team mate broke a collar bone. Glad I didn’t stay.

Raced the El Diablo. Means killer chicken. no skipping or chain brakeage. So all good there.

Put the new stem on tonight, excited to try it out tomorrow.

Also raises hand sheepishly.

I take spawn to daycare in the mornings and go run errands most weeks. There’s the occasional trip up to the mountains for skiing, but we split my car and my wife’s for those.

In the summer, there’s more driving to golf courses and biking areas/MUPs and friends’ houses to bike. But the drives for social engagements almost always happen in my wife’s car because I am not leaving my car parallel parked in the city and I’m not paying $30-$40 to park in a garage where there’s an equal chance of getting hit.

So to be clear, you/ that twitterator were asking why companies no longer spend extra to make buildings that can't be repurposed when the market shifts?

I used to frequent a top notch Mexican restaurant in a former Vancouver Pizza Hut, and a bar down in Portland with the telltale PH windows.

I am going to assume they'd rather it weren't that clear, and that it happens is the point.

Downloading Strade Bianche Donne ATM, so no spoilers!

I've decided I'm watching primarily women's races this year.
