Addiction 2023.1

Notices
Road Cycling ďIt is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.Ē -- Ernest Hemingway

I know I have problems.

Dental fillings this morning. They had to use the juvenile mouthpiece thing because my mouth won't open wide enough for the adult. SMH

Main sail furled, storm jib hoisted, all hatches closed and latched.

Stay safe out there today.

The Santa Monica mountains are coastal. They rarely, if ever, get snow. I think the high points are only around 4K feet. Here is another with the Pacific in view. edit, Terry is right, the high point is closer to 3K

I don't think the Santa Monica Mountains got snow. If they did, it was just a dusting.

They're a small range on the coast, topping out around 3000 feet. The higher mountains are to the east:

The more inland mountains here are the San Gabriels. They have ski areas and can be over 10K feet in places. Here is a shot from the road up to Mount Wilson, which is only 5500 feet. That's a 10K mountain in the background.

I'm not sure what the normal derailment rate is, but it sure seems like NS is doing it a lot.

Or, you could talk like a sailor and say, "Only God takes down what man puts up."

Of course, easy for a lake sailor to say.

Update: Oh, goody.

"The state is working around the clock with local partners to deploy life-saving equipment and first responders to communities across California," Newsom said Wednesday. "With more dangerous storms on the horizon, we'll continue to mobilize every available resource to protect Californians."

On the plus side, they gave us an extension on tax filing. So, there's that.
