Addiction 2023.1

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Remember the MASH episode where Hawkeye was trying to teach Radar how to look/act smart to impress the nerdish nurse? Take this cue:

Stop for a minute, look into the distance, and say "That's HIGHLY SIGNIFICANT."

It worked for Radar. Ah, Bach....

A foot of snow in a week -- how charming.

So glad not to be living in the Central Sierra right now. The snowfall totals are mind-boggling, 54 feet and counting.

Daughter #2 got a mini-internship to go to Cannes Film Festival in May. I looked at the map, and it's not TERRIBLY far from Mt Ventoux....

Hmmm.....maybe I can stow away in her luggage?

I made an interesting (to me) observation. Last year, I was running Zwift on an old, cheap laptop with limited graphic capabilities. The Younger Boy was upgrading his computer, so he put together one for me from cast off bits, including a pretty good (but not top shelf) graphics card. It boots and launches programs MUCH, MUCH faster, and yes, the graphics are a lot better. But it still seemed like they weren't as kick-ass as I'd hoped. Last week, I was on a ride and wanted to look something up on Zwift Companion, running on my iPhone, so I put my glasses on to read the screen on the phone.

Then I looked up at the TV screen and I was AMAZED how crisp the graphics were. I've been watching a Hi-Def game with Low-Def eyeballs. Clearly, further upgrades to the graphics would be misplaced. Figuring how to ride with glasses might be an idea, though.

Well, you're pretty skinny, but with those spider legs she'd need a very long suitcase, even with you all folded up.

I recently got my ears cleaned out and noted that I'm listening to the car CD several notches lower volume than I normally do.

What did they use? Ear candles? Q-tips? A pressure washer?
