Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Skoal tin in the back pocket, too.

Not a jersey pocket.

We went shopping and the corn in the store was awful. I suggested we stop at a roadside vendor on the way home and they had some. In my limited Spanish I tried to ask how much for four ears and the lady wanted me to buy 12, I think. After a while she put four in a bag and asked for $3. Heck of a deal if they're good so I handed her a $5 bill and she didn't have change. She threw 4 more into another bag so I got 8 huge ears for $5.

Can't wait to try them and either be disappointed or deliriously happy.

Vacation ride #3 was pretty much the reverse of ride #2 on Monday. I added a few miles in the early and late parts of the route for a total of 38. We head home tomorrow. It's been a good week away from our usual routines, but we definitely miss things about being home.

We buy our sweet corn from the farmer that leases the fields that surrounds us. It is delicious.

I lived near a corn field years ago, it was good. We've been pretty lucky with the corn we get from the market but today it didn't look good so we tried the roadside thing.

Possibly. But if he does it's in the above pictured barnhouse, in Canada. Might need to commission a local to conduct a document search therein (still don't know the whereabouts of the will, corporate documents, etc.)

In general I'm just curious how much farmers pay to lease acres in East Ontario. A couple dozen acres isn't going to bring in much revenue, obviously, but it could offset some expenses and make the place look less abandoned.

Xavier and Iowa State.
1 BITD I think it was a percentage of the yield.

2 Harsh, I may have to rescind my offer of cokes and hot dogs at an Owls game.

They're double digit seeds.

In other sport news, congrats to John Kelly for completing his second Barkley Marathons. Brutal.

I know one of the runners from last years Barkley Marathons. It's a different sort of cray-cray.

I think it is a challenge (if almost impossible ?) to find good corn at this time of year ?

It’s also worth noting that this mud is probably mostly going to be soft-ish roads. It’ll be deep in a few spots and likely not rideable in one location.

Pass. I really got into mud riding when I first moved to Oregon, but got over it after a couple years.

Frankie is a teenager now

Here's one of my favorite pictures of her:

Reminds me of a religious image, which is fitting since she's one of the most important things in my life.

As evidenced here, when she's in the dryer and my reaction is one of affection and not annoyance.
