Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

We don’t really have a “product” yet. We could consult to the tune of 250-300 an hour based on current and prior roles, but we have to build a customer base etc.

We make a great pair though, she’s stronger on strategy and I’m stronger in identifying tech, resources and building things.

It's hard to judge that time. You'll never think you have enough in the bank (money or customers) to make the jump.

When I jumped ship and first formed my own firm, I was afraid I would starve in year one. Didn't and actually did quite well. But, there is the fear every year that this one will not be as good as the last. You just keep plugging along and never give up.

The nice thing is that people generally want you to succeed, and will refer business you've never thought about just because nobody likes to see anyone fail.

Daughter was audit side as well, and was moving up. First in Dallas, then moved to Austin. Once she got to Austin and the headhunters heard about her, they came knocking on her door. She had multiple offers to leave Deloitte.

She's now with Big Commerce on the revenue side.

A friend of mine is with Deloitte on the advisory side, and made partner a year or two ago. Before doing so, he was traveling to Europe as much as 200 days per year, while he had a wife and young twins at home. Covid gave him some respite from the travel, but he's back at it. Seems it just never gets better. He makes a bunch, has a really nice big house on acreage, and everything else he wants, but his marriage has seen some strain and he's never really around to enjoy his family as much as he would like.

Incorrect. This was the golden age of television.

My television consumption is generally limited to live sports. Baseball, college football and a smattering of Hockey and NASCAR. We will occasionally stream an old TV show or movie on one of the platforms.

I couldn't tell you what shows are on what nights or even name more than a couple. Yet, despite my health issues I live a very fulfilling life. I'll always have my 70's music that velo vol doesn't appreciate.

I start a YouTube TV subscription every year in August and kill it around now. I keep it for basketball (college) and football mostly.

Just priced going 1x on the 5200.

If I went Apex it would be about 300
If I went rival it would be about 450

How bad is Apex?

no, i'm an architect, a principal in the architecture equivalent of "big law." some similarities in the structure. i spend a lot of time with land use attorneys and my best friend, brother, and many other family members are attorneys, mostly labor defense or in-house labor.

I think he lives about 20 miles from me but we've never met in person. It's probably a similar distance in driving to Santa Ana from our respective homes.
It's supposed to stop raining here by tomorrow. It's raining today again.

Yup, and I think we stay pretty close to the airport. I’m not sure.

I'm not far from Big John. Without traffic, it's about 45 minutes for me, too. At the wrong time of day, it can be double that. Flying in to SNA? I was closer when I was on vacation last week.

Reminds me of a time when my old boss was doing a lot of travel for business - he and the CEO were out beating the bushes for investors. I said, 'It must be nice to be go to all these different countries' and he said, 'Every hotel near the airport in every major city in the world is the same.'
