Not definitive, but I'd expect that 32 round spokes on an Open Pro or other box section would be much worse than 24 spokes even on a nicely-shaped ~30mm. The air would "grab" a corner with turbulence and push it instead of sliding around, and at that length 8 spokes is more than nothing.

There's not really much study on side pressure in general; forward drag sells so they focus on it.
