Anyone in highschool shave their legs?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Anyone in highschool shave their legs?

I shaved my legs for the first time this summer, and I love it, but its getting to be that time of year again.I'll be a junior this year. I'm expecting a lot of abuse from my classmates for this, but I dont think I can go back to hairy legs. Everyone allready knows Im a cyclist, but I just dont want to explain the reasons for leg shaving to every person I meet. I need some advice or at least a few good comebacks!

Doubtful anyone will say anything, swimmers shave their legs, some of our football players do too. If anyone does say somethign to you ignore em, they aren't worth the breathe to explain to em.

Ignore them. If you're a junior now, in a little over two years, you'll likely never see those people again.

anyone who tapes shaves the area to be taped. Folks never teased bikers when I was in HS...they were all amazing XC skiers who could crush anyone in any aerobic activity and generally were really well adjusted socially, and mind you, this was a long time ago. No one will care if you don't.

Make up an absurd story and see how many people believe you. Say you were picking up your model girlfriend from a photo shoot, and a bunch of ninjas attacked and shoved you into a vat of vitamin E, spilling it all over your legs, and resulting in their hairless state. Then you got up and beat them all to death, and drove off into the sunset, in your ferarri, and with your model girlfriend.

They'll have to believe you.

if anyone laughs at you, just put on your spandex and beat the living snot out of them after school. then, when anyone asks them why they shave their legs they'll have to lie, because who wants to say they got beat up after school by some dude wearing spandex?

I'm at Senior and I go to an all boys high school. I get a little crap, but not much. I don't mind the jokes.

The girls like it, some do at least. There's one girl who, whenever I see her at parties, we have a contest to see whose legs are smoother. I beat her at prom, she won this weekend.

Bah, in ten years they'll all be balding, pot-bellied, and middle-aged while you'll be fit, fast, and dating a supermodel. See who's laughing then

As long as you don't act like you're embarassed about it, most people probably won't give you a hard time. I shaved my legs for 3 years when I was in high school and people would ask about it but generally understood once I explained it. Just be cool about it and don't sweat the few jerks that might make fun of you... :-)

I know two people that shaved their legs in high school.

The mechanic at the LBS said he got some hard times while he was in HS for his shaved legs.

My riding buddy (same age as me) said he didn't have that bad of a time and he said the girls liked it, well like saying "Who's legs are smoother?"

I wasn't into cycling to the point of shaving my legs in HS. I shave my legs now and all the girls are over me (minor exaggeration). Most people don't really say anything. Its only your close friends that really notice and say something. Wait till college, no one cares what you do.

That is just wrong... shaving legs is a PITA, as far as I'm concerned- a necessary evil... not something I "love"- and not something my wife loves (although she tolerates it). If you truly love it, you might want to ask yourself WHY?

As far as comebacks- shave it all off and act prepubescent... claim to be a late bloomer

1. It' much more comfortable
2.I can see all the veins sticking out of my calves when I flex
3.I like rubbing my smooth legs
4.I can swim faster
5.

most popular question for me throughout my teen years (this includes high school). "dude, do you shave your legs?" ive swam competitively since 5 and probably started shaving once a year when i was about 14. although i got it less and less as i got older, people are very immature (including myself so i really cant blame them) and will bicker and make fun of you. all i did was say, "yeah, i sure do." if they were genuinely interested to why i did it, i would explain but usually they would make a gay reference or something stupid like that. all you need to do is justify it to yourself, no else. dont let it bother you because its not anyone elses business but your own. as far as comebacks for "dude that so gay!" (there were a lot of *****exual comments about shaving for some reason. doesnt make any sense to me. apparently gay people shave their legs), say "yes, im gay because i shave my legs guy. thats real intelligent statement. must have taken you all day to think of that one." if you let people know it doesnt bother you, they wont bother asking or poking fun. the aerodynamic benefit outweighed any verbal comment i ever received.

I read somewhere that in cycling there really is no aero benifit. Swimming is a different thing though.
