Addiction 2023.2

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The wind was out of control today. Should have done intervals but had no motivation because of the wind. So I picked a route that would have me experience a crosswind during the whole ride. This ended up not going as planned and led to a lot of cursing while trying to make it back.

Madone 2.0 is in the shop. Bontrager aluminum bars are being installed, with new cables and new tape. I could have done it myself, but the internal routing sounded like time that I don’t have.

I spent a lot of of time researching those amazon bars. Almost pulled the trigger, but I started finding some reviews by actual serious riders, and it was a little horrifying. One snapped in a sprint, another said the flex when sprinting in the drops almost caused him to crash. Also, it says you can’t put them with an aluminum stem which seems odd.

a friend bought an inexpensive / clone carbon riser bar

the bar looked good but he was afraid to use it - sat unused for a while - and he later gave it to me

so now I have it - I’m afraid to use it - and it sits

A new trumpeter showed up at KCB tonight.

It may not last long (if the guy quits), but for tonight at least I got the call to move up to 2nd. It's like a journeyman AAer getting the call to AAA.

Just saw some video of firefighting procedure for the Waymo - they picked it up with a forklift, slid it into a big ol' dumpster, dumped a couple yards of sand on it, added water. The presenter said they'll leave it in there for a couple weeks.
