Addiction 2023.2

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

After coffee and Pilates I could read that. Not before.

"Espero que" should of course use the subjunctive, yes. That's practically the archetypical example for it.

I tried to upload Girl from the North Country, but was unsuccessful. One of the better Dylan albums, imo.

Moments ago I remembered we have our anniversary coming up in 8 days. I was the first to remember it. Last year we both forgot.

Saw a tick on the floor of my tent one night, which triggered a thorough investigation, and another the following morning.

I saw a LOT of javelina in the area, must've been their fault.

Still have 14 miles back to the homestead. Only bringing one litre of water instead of my recent usual 10-12 litres.

It was refreshing but tough due to mobility issues.

The longest I went without one while riding was 5 days back in 2000. Finally got a motel room in Missoula and shower after the sixth day. The woman working the desk looked a little scared of me. When I emerged from my room all showered and shaved, the young girl sweeping up the parking lot told me I looked like a completely different person.

Sad.
I see tons of small SUVs on the road, the size of a Rav4, say. I don't really see a similar number of midsize SUVs like the 4Runner, or large SUVs.

Plenty of pickups, though.

Mrs BD won't drive my car, says it's too big. I used to dispute that but lately she's been losing her eyesight, so it's probably for the best she sticks to her own car.

I wonder if they're as tasty as pork chops. Probably too gamey.

And yet! there were passages in a couple of the songs that are mostly percussion solos, and no one was playing anything.

A guy I have only seen the last two or three weeks was tasked with some "bell" solos. The band director went over to him and worked one-on-one with him for 5-10 minutes to figure out some passages, while everyone else sat doing nothing.

Eventually, we had spent so much time on the song that the director gave up and moved to the next one. I'm not sure if we're going to play it in the concert or not.

SMH.

We had a fantastic ride today. We had 16 riders and a gorgeous sunny spring day. There was one detour that gave us an extra climb as a bonus!
