Addiction 2023.2

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Right now, I'm trying to bend my ankles more to get more aero and it's taking all my attention, but I will try those things sequentially.

You should get new walking shoes. See if the store will let you take a pair out for a couple hours, make sure you don’t get dropped with the new kicks. Also have them replace the shoes laces with nylon laces before the test walk.

God, what a ****** job! I wonder what they pay.

This is for the new class of foiling Americas Cup boats, where there's a class rule against non-human power, so cyclists have to power the hydraulics that raise and lower the foils and crank the winches. You're down in the bowels of the boat pedaling your guts out while the thing bounces along at 50 mph. Doesn't sound like much fun.

Some of the programs actually teach the cyclists how to sail and let them sit up and look around a little and be part of the crew. Others treat them like cattle. Not clear why they need that MechE background.

I think they'll take them as heavy as they come. Mass low in the the boat = righting moment. I've done races where there was a limit on combined crew weight. I was popular.

Laptop trackpad is acting up. Will have to get it to the Apple Store. No longer clicks, just tap-to-click.

Actually, this is probably exactly wrong for a foiling boat. I bet they want a very high power/weight ratio.

Focus on pushing off with your toes. Also work on lengthening your stride, which requires use of the toes.

I took the Paramount out this morning and cut 5.5 minutes off the regular ride, with the Trek 414. I've been riding the 414 because the Paramount was set up for Bob, who is significantly talker than me. I finally bought a shorter stem, earlier in the week. Every time I pick that bike up I'm amazed at how light it is
