Addiction 2023.2

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I have a self-propelled Honda, but also have a service. The guys that mow it use self-propelled mowers. Nobody in this area uses push mowers. The St. Augustine and Bermuda grasses here make that too difficult.

My OG Bermuda lawn is easy to mow with the push reel, as it's not dense at all. My hybrid Bermuda lawns are easy if I mow them at least twice a week. The first mow of the season on the Hybrid is a pretty good workout, I went over it 8 times on the first mow, dropping the height 1/4" three times, mowing in two directions at each height.

I might be going up there for a week or so in the next few weeks (waiting on passport).

There's a tractor there, but I think it has a mechanical issue.

Still haven't started probate process. It's a problem.

three hours work and the BSO is rideable. The tyres hold air. I should have probably replaced the bearings but it's a BSO so I just packed some fresh grease in the hubs and bottom bracket and called it good enough. The brakes now work. The freewheel is crunchy, cheap and probably fused to the hub. Luckily I'm not going to ride it as a SS but as a FG. After a cup of tea it'll be time for test ride. It's been years since I rode a fixed gear. I may regrets this.

Wow, a bona fide, good old-fashioned carbon fiber bashing thread.

Awesome, it was overdue.

Watching the last Supercross race of the season on USA network. Eli Tomac was leading the points with 2 events remaining. He just needed to play it safe and finish and instead he landed wrong from a jump and ruptured his Achilles tendon and had to go directly to surgery.

So this last race is very anti-climactic.

Well it didn’t go too badly. The BB is crunchy and creaky despite the fresh grease. Still you can’t expect much for $15.

So here's one for the experts.

Running is obviously more intense than cycling per duration - more pounding, zero even ability to coast, must work even downhill. More calories per duration. So on and so forth...

But when I do a run day instead of a trainer day - even with all that - my Garmin stress graph goes lower, faster. I sleep better, and my body battery goes much higher. Even a trainer workout of similar duration and intensity doesn't do that and leaves my heart trashed. What would cause that?

On the bus yesterday evening I either dropped my wallet or got pickpocketed. I’m not a happy camper.

thin_concrete bampilot06 Attached is a partial screenshot from Strava that shows my power peaking on 4/15. I had been experiencing hay fever for several days but started getting a tickle in my throat on 4/10. By 4/20, I could tell things were getting serious and eventually went to the doctor with a bronchial infection and got amoxicillin and prednisone. Yesterday, I finally made it back to that 4/15 peak.

I like these much maligned graphs from Strava but I’ve found the. To be pretty accurate for me with a PM and A HRM.

Heh, when I posted this I thought I was in the actual ‘stop riding my cf bike’ thread, not here.

This is what happens sometimes when you post late at night.
