Addiction 2023.2

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Free boat in Baltimore if any eastcoasters are looking. Been aground about 9 days now. Sitting pretty high on the mud, so extraction's gonna take some work even with a good tide. 1961 SeaWitch ketch.

Fantastic pic if they'd have gotten the horizon right.

Daughter #2 made it to Cannes for her mini-internship.

Her "assignment," from what I can tell, is to watch a bunch of restored films they premiere there as "Cannes Classics" and write up/publish reviews about them.

She actually likes to write and was planning to be an English major before she changed her mind to Film Studies. I suspect her "dream job" would be a film critic....however I wonder how many full-time well-paying openings there are for that job?

In the city for my next day checkup. Drinking OXXO coffee, because I needed to break a $500 peso note. The wife doesn't like to bother the tellers for change.

Does it cost more than it's worth to get it out of there? Isn't there some law saying the owner has to retrieve it?

No such thing as a free boat and that one would appear to have reached the end of its economic life. Tides run about a foot and a half to inches in those parts.

Yes and yes, but that picture conveys a strong impression of indigency.

There is one for sale in California for $150,000, so the value (if sea worthy) is likely more than the recovery cost.

But, those old wood boats take a special person to own one. Maintenance is a never ending job, and those old cruising boats are so heavy that most don't want them because they want something a little more sporty unless buying it to cruise and live aboard.

Apart from the money, there's no way I could handle being in there for the days it would take me to get the water, trash, and smell out of the cabin.
