Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I had a fun ride today. Started with 11 riders but one guy turned back at the first climb. We circled the Rose bowl before stopping for a snack. A friend bought me lunch at Kabab Daddy. Had a lovely chicken kabab wrapped in pita. Still able to handle the climbing after that, but there wasn't really much.

In the 70s and nice but the heat is coming.

Go out 7 mile radius and then do loops?

My Brown Squirrel route doesn't go out more than 7 miles out. I guess I could do 16 or 17 miles in the office park to get that distance. Wouldn't have the elevation though.

Speaking of which, I'd like to register a complaint. They now have three construction sites at the office park () and the trucks are leaving gravels out on the roadway. They should be sweeping clear the road every day. Or at least at the end of the week. Riding on non-clean pavement is uncivilized.

Stan's Crest Mk4 might be good. Or maybe the Hed Belgium G.

I'd probably go Stan's cuz I'm used to them and they've never offered up any surprises during wheelbuilding or tyre mounting.

*also cheap

I'm leaning towards the Stan's rim.

Not a sport. P&R. Or olde armour. Also, Shawshank Redemption is a movie.

And they played the Rockies, whose logo reminds me of Columbia River High School in Vancouver, USA, who now have the same logo. I used to think Columbia River (simply called River by many Vancouverites) ripped the CR off from the Rockies but now I dunno. River alum Roger Hambright passed away recently and in an old photo of him I see River used to have the same CR letter placement on their caps but with a way cooler typeface. Still pretty sure River snagged on the Colorado style after the Rockies were born but now I wanna dig through some yearbooks and see what the caps were like throughout the years.

Anyways, here's a couple of pics of Hambright, RIP:

Here he is as a senior at River, 1967

this is interesting. without doing anything stupid (like riding up and down our 20% grade cross street) it takes me

4 miles to gain 750 feet (twin peaks)
7 miles to gain 1,100 feet (hawk hill)
21 miles to gain 3,300 feet (mt tam)

the max climbing I can manage in or near the city limits - no more than 7 miles from home - and without any repeats is 3,300 feet in 35 miles.
