Addiction 2023.2

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Same.

And me too, but I switched to one of their other scents a while back.

If Seeds' surgery goes wrong and he is blinded, do you think he'll have a robot read this thread to him so he can keep up?

Once upon a time my dad worked for an organization that provided braille materials for blind people. I don't think that's available for Bike Forums.

Top of Mt. Hamilton looks a bit chilly at the moment.

Maybe it will warm up by midday, when I'd get there if I left now. What do you think? Go or no go?

With my raging allergies, I opted out of our normal tu-th group ride but my wife said she was going and would I please air up her tires which I did. While doing that, I noticed her saddle bag was missing* so I quickly put together a kit for her by robbing one of my bikes. A half hour after she leaves, she texts me and says She has no lights or computer and that I should meet her along the route and give them to her.

Whew! I’ve never worked so hard for a ride that I didn’t go on.

*bike was in the shop yesterday and they failed to return her bag.

Wind was out of control today. Felt like a head wind most of the time, or blowing me sideways.

Did manage a tail wind for one section. Going 28 mph with minimal effort is always fun.

My 1986 custom steel "Alpine" bike was made there. Not sure there are many still on the road, but BITD they were the "it" frame builder in the DC area.

edit: google got me an interesting article from 1987 about the builder: https://www.washingtonpost.com/archi...-88f2aee8fc32/

Cataract/astigmatism. I was concerned because my optometrist mentioned the astigmatism and the surgeon didn't, until today. The woman ahead of me was told multiple times to breathe deeply. And don't move. And a drop in the eye. I was awake and conversing the whole time, and had vision, of a sort. And felt nothing except the initial flow into my hand. Not at all what I expected. When it was over they took me out in a wheelchair, and by the time we got home I was walking normally, except for the lack of depth perception. The surgery itself lasted 20 minutes.
