Addiction 2023.3

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Spanish exam completed. I didn't ace it(prolly) but did better than expected, considering the paltry amount of studying I did

Maybe you're a Spanish savant. Akin to me being a highlighting savant.

This old man's flat-earth bar rode biek project is just about finished. Just shifter/cassette/chain and wheels left to do. Thinking XT-level 'lectric, + wheels to suit.

You'd be surprised how much you might accomplish if you didn't fall asleep during the 3rd inning of a baseball game every night.

Once you try learning Mandarin, Spanish (and Italian and German) will look pretty much like English anyway.

I was ready to take the test for citizenship which, at my age, consists only of Spanish communication and comprehension. So I took that class, to improve my Spanish. The teacher said it wasn't necessary, but it's always nice to be better able to communicate, and I learned some good stuff.
Younger folk are coming out, saying they passed the much more difficult history and culture part, but failed the Spanish, and can't figure out why. So I'm gonna take my time, and step lightly, trying to figure out where they are being tricked. Because trickery it certainly is. The good news is that after a failure you have another chance, two weeks later. Fail that one and wait a year* And as an update, I went in Thursday to try my luck, and had paperwork issues, as almost everyone does. I get a second try at that too. My federal background check came in in Monday's email. I had paid for it the previous Friday morning. Thus was able to keep the appt that I had thought I would have to miss.
* And pay another US$500 application fee
