Nhubie-
The bike looks great. What do you think of those Rolf wheels? I have been toying with picking up a set but they just seem soooo light and I weigh 80.4 kilos.

I can understand wanting to paint the bike, and now you have a new canvas. That postal paint if in good shape may have been a fine collectors someday.
I remember when I bought my 5000 back in 89, it only came in Red as a complete bike. I told my LBS that I was going to paint it Black right away as I already had a Red Klein Q-Pro. Once the box was opened I change my mind, however now I can live vicariously through you, Thanks
Hopefully you put at least "Trek" stickers back on the down tube. Bikes with out stickers always remind me of Stolen bicycles

I agree with complience....hope that's not how you're leaving it...cause if it is, it looked better before - unless you plan on pulling some middle of the night mission impossible jobs that require stealth.

I think the stealth look is just fine and I think you'll actually get more attention and comments when you ride the "mystery" bike that you would with the standard paint. My new Ti build is on a frame with no branding of any kind and I'm very happy with the look. Sometimes less is more . . .

clean black or "stealth only really works if EVERTHING on the bike is black, wheels, spokes, hubs, clamps, shifters, chain, guess chain ring and cassett is the only exception

Origionally I wanted to build up a ti bike this summer but since my trek was only 2 years old I couldn't really justifie it. If this project didnt go as plan it wouldve given me an exccuse to get a new frame but I really like how it turned out.
Yeah, my decals were peeling off pretty bad. It also had nicks and dings in the paint also. As for preping i sanded it down and my sis bf painted it for me.
I dont think this bike will ever be "finish", will continue to shop for parts. Does anyone know of a good place for a set of black rims for around 500usd?

People have been posting https://oddsandendos.safeshopper.com/2/cat2.htm?582 quite a bit lately, i've been taking a look at the niobium 30's but i don't know much about wheels. I forgot to check my hub to see if it will accept a 11t cassett, so i'll use that as my excuse to buy a rear aero wheel (niobium 30) if it doesn't.
I duno, you alsmot have to go campy for all black stuff. Unless you're going to have your shifters/brake leavers, brakes, and deraileurs, plated, painted, or powder coated(wouldn't advise on that, to much redrilling things to make them fit again afterwards if you don't know what you're doing) black. I saw a stealth bike once, it was awsome, but the guy said he had almost 5 grand (or some rediculus amount) in it getting good special black parts.

that the dilema right now. If I get a new wheel set do I go campy or shimano? I was really close to picking up a new group of campy for this bike but decide that I should really save my money (1 1/2 year left of college and I want to buy a place when I graduate), someone tell me that I am being wise on this!
